Centre for Teaching Excellence, Drama and Robotics

Located on the site of the 40 year-old Sheil Building (opened in 1967), a new state-of-the-art teaching and learning centre will provide flexible classrooms, networked video and audio facilities and air conditioning throughout. The estimated $4 million construction cost includes demolition of the existing building, site preparation and fit out. Major features include the following:

Centre for Teaching Excellence

TSS has been blessed with having committed academic staff who continually seek to improve the education of our boys. The Centre for Teaching Excellence will provide state-of-the-art facilities for our academic staff to prepare and assess class material, to prepare and evaluate teaching aides, and to undertake professional development which will in turn enhance the learning environment in the School. We need to support teaching excellence if we are to realise the academic potential of all of our students.

Drama Centre

Drama has played an important role in developing well-rounded young men at TSS for many years. We have proven time and again that the performing arts offer boys a unique opportunity to step outside their comfort zone and learn new things about themselves. Many of our top sportsmen proudly take on leading roles in House and School plays, with some memorable productions and performances in recent years. The School’s commitment to drama is evident in the magnificent Annand Theatre, a top- class performance venue. However, the boys lack dedicated teaching and learning space, which will be provided for in this new Drama Centre. Its major features include purpose-built classrooms, spaces for costume and prop storage, change areas and staff work rooms. \

Robotics Centre

The study of robotics is a highly effective way of improving boys’ creative thinking, problem solving and communication skills. At TSS, the study of robotics commences in the Prep School with a mechanical Lego program. In the Senior School, and within these new purpose-built classrooms, boys will go on a journey from simple robot design and programming through to developing advanced skills in ‘Robot C’ programming and robot construction. Boys will also be given the opportunity to further enhance their skills by participating in a variety of national and international competitions.
