TSS Chess Club

The GPS Chess competition commenced in 1996, with TSS competing for the first time in 2003. All nine GPS schools compete in chess. The table below shows the results of the TSS Premier Chess Team since 2003.

 

GPS Chess Information and Rules

Structure: GPS chess is played between teams of four players.
The teams are:

• Premier Team (Open Age). This team consists of the strongest 4 players in Years 8 to 12. It is this team that competes for the GPS Premiership.
  
• Senior Team (Years 11 and 12) This team consists of the 4 strongest players in Years 11 and 12 (that are not playing in the Premier Team). This team vies for the Senior title.
  
• Junior Team (Years 8 to 10) This team consists of the 4 strongest players in Years 8 to 10 (that are not in the Premier team). This team vies for the Junior title.
  
• Open Team A (Open age)
  
• Open Team B (Open age)
  
• Open Team C, D
  

The open teams are any players from Years 8 to 12. School chess coordinators pre-agree on how many open teams are to be played in a particular round.

Timing: Each player must make all their moves within sixty (60) minutes on the clock.

Competition points are awarded as such: Win: 2 points, Draw: 1 point each, Loss: 0 points. (Note: A win is achieved by a 4 – 0, 3.5 – 0.5, 3 – 1 or 2.5 – 1.5 result over the 4 boards.)

Chess Club   All students interested in playing chess for the school or socially are welcome to attend chess club at the following times starting in Term 1 Week 3.
                Years 7 and 8: Tuesday lunchtime (1 to 1:30pm) in D14
                Years 9 to 12: Thursday lunchtime (12:50 to 1:30pm) in D14
