2010/11 GPS PREMIERS & 2009/10/11 STATE CUP CHAMPIONS
Review: GPS Season 2011-12
TSS Cricket had another great
season in 2011/2012 with an increase in winning percentage from previous years
in all teams, a large number of boys playing representative cricket and all of
the boys who participated having had fun with their mates. Once again, TSS
Cricket enjoyed a higher success rate in ‘A’ teams winning 70% of all games, as
well as increasing the overall winning results in all teams to over 65%, despite
rain affecting parts of the season. This has increased from 15% in 2007, which
shows the depth and strengths of this program and is promising for future years.
TSS fielded 17 teams this season; two more than last year and was superbly
coached by a high quality coaching team who all did a fantastic job with the
boys.
The ‘A’ teams all performed
strongly whilst the ‘B’ – ‘D’ teams maintained their participation focus but
also performed very well. The 8A’s, 8B’s, 10A’s, 11 B’s and 2nd XI
all had an outstanding season with the 8B’s winning all of their games and
received The Handyside Trophy for the most successful TSS Cricket team for 2012.
The 8A’s were also undefeated and but tied one game. The Festival of Cricket was
even more popular this year with the coaches’ team taking out the annual Super
8’s Tournament.
The 1st XI
unfortunately had 4 of their matches washed out which meant they could not
retain the Earl Williams GPS 1st XI Trophy. However, they did win 3
out of their 4 matches and trained, played and acted professionally throughout
the whole season. The 1st XI won the Australia Post State Cup
Tournament for the third year in a row in November as well as the Combined 1st
XI T20 Festival in January. The 1st XI went to Perth in January and
was lucky enough to stay at Scotch College and played two games against the host
school as well as versing a competitive Christchurch Grammar School. With 8 boys
of the 2012 1st XI eligible in 2013, the possibility of having
another successful season is promising.
Upcoming
Events 2012-13
TSS Cricket is busily planning towards cricket season
2012/13. Training for the high performance component of the program will start
in the first week of August for 1st XI and “A Team” cricketers and
Current year 6/ 7 Prep cricketers. The sessions include skills remediation,
strength and conditioning and many trial games/ camps to look forward to.
Additionally, there is a host of training conducted at the school by Gold Coast
Juniors, Gold Coast Dolphins and Qld Cricket this season as well as the U15
state carnival (QJC) conducted @ TSS.
Club Cricket
starting Oct 2012
We wish to bring to your attention that club cricket is
starting in October. Gold Coast Junior Cricket this year will be playing the
under 10 competition Friday evenings…under lights. Club under 11’s-under 14’s
will be played on Saturday mornings for the full season BUT…under15’s & 17’s
will likely be played on Saturday mornings up until Christmas and on Sunday
mornings after Christmas...allowing many TSS Cricketers to play a full club
season. TSS Cricket looks to compliment club cricket whereby we encourage TSS
boys to participate in club cricket. If you have a vision to play cricket for
Qld & Australia…playing club cricket makes you eligible to trial for Gold Coast
Rep. Teams (and higher) who play state titles from u12-u16 each year. If you
wish to be involved…clubs sign on in the last week of August. To join a cricket
club (7 years and up) contact your nearest club detailed below… For more

Queensland and Australian Youth Selections
Congratulations
to Sam Hain who has been named along with recent Old Boy Nick Stevens to play
for Australia Under 19’s against India, England and New Zealand in a Quad series
of one-day games between April 5and 15 in Townsville, leading into the Youth
World Cup later in the year. They have been named in the preliminary 30-man
squad along with another recent Old Boy Billy Stanlake. The squad will be
reduced and finalised closer to the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup. Sam Hain, Nick
Stevens and Billy Stanlake were members of the Qld U19’s who won the National
u19’s Carnival in Adelaide.
Congratulations
to Michael Graham, Sam Rasmussen and Sam Hain who have played for Qld U17’s
finishing second in the National Carnival just completed in Hobart. All players
contributed to a strong Qld performance with Sam Hain captaining and dominating
the carnival batting at no3. Michael Graham successfully opened the bowling and
took the most wickets for Qld and Sam Rasmussen contributing important runs in
the middle order. Sam Rasmussen is eligible to play u17’s again next season. Sam
Hain and Michael Graham were named in the Australian u17 merit side…a terrific
achievement by both boys and reward for the work they have done.
Congratulations
to Blair Tickner and Alex MacInnes who represented Qld U19 Schoolboys vs NSW u19
Schoolboys Don Bradman Oval (Bowral) in a 3 day fixture in early December. Blair
and Alex opened the bowling together to have NSW in trouble in a see sawing 3
day game which had NSW struck back on the last day to win outright.
Unfortunately rain prevented the 1 day fixture from being played on the SCG.
TSS Old Boys vs TSS 1st XI 2012
On Sunday the 1982 Premiership Captain Tony Jackson lead a formidable Old Boys
line up to test the 2012 1st XI for the “Bill King” Trophy. Many past
Old Boys and huge contributors such as Bill King, Bill Greinke and Ray Fowler
attended a great day. Old Boys Team: Tom Hanrahan,
Mitch Gahan, Nick Stevens, Simon Anderson, Howard Biddle, Ben Solomon, Adrian
Tyler, Cameron Brimblecombe, Dom Buckland, Jack Hargreaves (WK), Tony Jackson
(c), Blair Tickner, Tim Smith, Bennet Dunne, Alex MacInnes.
The Old Boys elected to bat first with Simon Anderson (49) launching sixes onto
the Centenary Centre roof. The 1st XI fought back to have the Old
Boys 8/143 but Howard Biddle (107) dug deep to score an outstanding century with
the support of Bennet Dunne (14) to get the Old Boys to a total of 212 off 50
overs. 1st XI saw Sam Hain (43) and Ben Shields (67) within reach of
victory but the tight bowling of Cameron Brimblecombe and Nick Stevens just kept
1st XI short of the total finishing 7/209 after the allotted overs.
*Score Card: TSS Old Boys vs TSS 1st
XI 2012
TSS Old Boys 212 all out (50)(Howard Biddle
107no, Simon Anderson 49, Jock Campbell 5/32 (8), Matthew Kuhnemann 3/28 (8))

Rasmussen 23, Oscar Richardson 22, Blair Tickner 2/21 (8))

Super 8’s Carnival
The TSS playing fields were abuzz on Sunday with the Super 8’s carnival running
concurrently. The TSS Cricket family came together for a ‘big bash’ including
favourites “Team Team’, Barbarians, School Captains 8, Rogers Pirates, Delpratt
House and many others. It was a terrific response with TSS Prep/ Senior Players,
Parents and Old Boys taking part. The “TSS Coaches Team” was formed to even up
the draw and this team of “Smoky’s” including students Henry Adams, Jackson
Williams and Liam Markey got past “Team Team” to then defeat “Brokebat Mountain”
in the final on the Village Green. The day was enjoyed by all and will be looked
forward to with anticipation in 2013.
*Score card: Super 8’s Final: Coaches Team vs
Brokebat Mountain
Coaches Team 5/69 off 7 overs defeated Brokebat
Mountain 6/60 off 7 overs

TSS State Cricket Champions 2011
The state wide competition saw TSS play Matthew Flinders Anglican College (MTAC)
(Buderim) in the final of this knock out comp. at IGS.
The following boys did their school proud in a hard fought final:
Ben Shields,
Jack Hargreaves (Yr12), Howard Biddle (Yr12), Sam Hain, Jason Bear, Oscar
Richardson, Ryan Menzies, Jock Campbell, Kristian Buckland, Blair Tickner
(Yr12), Alex MacInnes (Yr12) & Billy Stanlake (Yr12)
TSS bowled first having MTAC 8/100 with 5 overs to bat, MTAC rallied to score
8/147 off 50 overs with Stanlake, Tickner, MacInnes and Menzies all taking 2
wickets in hot conditions. In reply, MTAC bowled and caught well to put TSS
under pressure at 4/40. Howard Biddle (70no) showed great concentration and
patience to bat through the innings with debutant Oscar Richardson (40no) also
playing a key role to get TSS to the total in the 46th over. A huge 6 by Howard
Biddle to reach the total was followed by a hearty “Tokio” to achieve the never
achieved before State Champion Team 3 wins in 3 years. A great way for the
Yr12’s to finish…with all missing ‘Schoolies’ to play key roles…and a great
chance for future 1st XI players to be immersed in the culture that the
departing Yr12’s have created.
TSS Cricket Premiers 2011
TSS have gone back to back winning the 1st XI GPS Premiership again in 2011. In
front of their home crowd on the Village Green, TSS 1st XI reduced BBC to 9/177
off their allotted 60 overs. In reply, BBC had TSS in trouble at 2/6 but a 140
run partnership between captain Nick Stevens (87no) and the in form Howard
Biddle (60) got TSS to 3/182 off 40 overs. TSS won by a bonus point to retain
the "Earle Williams Trophy" which had eluded TSS for 28 years before success in
the last two seasons. TSS was also vying for top of the table finishes in Yr8A,
Yr9A, Yr10A and Yr11A Teams. A fantastic effort. Yr10A's had an outstanding
season...undefeated through all of their games.
