Football
For the first time in GPS Football history, 2012 saw The Southport School’s 1st
XI team win the Premiership. The decision to split the winter sports seasons in
2012 saw more than 250 footballers playing in more than 20 TSS Football teams.
Of the 110 games played, TSS won 52% of its matches, with the 2nd XI, 3rd XI and
11D teams finishing at the top of their respective divisions, while our 4th XI,
11A and 10D teams placed second in their respective divisions.
Football is the fastest growing sport at TSS. We have a first-class development
program run by talented coaches, played on fields that are the envy of most
other schools. Our coaching program draws on some of the very best coaches in
Queensland. Our 1st XI Head Coach, Keith Stevens is himself a former
professional footballer having played over 500 games for Millwall FC in the
English League and has coached for the Queensland Academy of Sport and Brisbane
Roar.
Despite its
comparatively short history as a GPS Sport, TSS Football has produced many
successful players who have gone on to represent local, state and international
teams. The names of those who have represented TSS Football at the highest level
can be found on the 1st XI Football
Honour Roll.
Football is well supported by our Friends of Football group who organise our
season functions and manage our catering services. They provide an invaluable
service to our footballers and are a tremendous asset to the program.
