Sport at TSS
The Southport School has a very proud history in sport on the Gold Coast. The
School provides extensive first-class sporting facilities designed to provide a
full range of activities for boys. Along with a reputation of providing
excellent
sporting facilities, the school is also known for its sporting excellence in
coaching. Over the years, the School has helped produce many sporting champions
through highly professional coaching, mentoring programs and access to
state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. As a member of the Great
Public Schools' Association of Queensland (GPS of Qld), the
School competes in a wide range of sports and activities.
Our Centenary Sports Centre provides the School with three undercover basketball
courts, a state-of-the-art gymnasium, and a large strength and conditioning
centre. The centre is also linked to our nine sports ovals, and our seven tennis
court and two heated pool swimming complexes.

The high level and professionalism of sports coaching has allowed many talented
boys to develop into regional, State, Australian and World Champions –
including, Nathan Sharpe, Mat Rogers, Lloyd Johansson, Tom Lawton,
Nathan Grey (Rugby – Aust. Wallabies), Richard Nyholt, Vitori
Buatava (Fijian Rugby), Andrew Baildon, Greg Brough, Leigh
McBean (Swimming), Chris Atkinson (WRC Rally Driver),
Craig Hackett, Shannon Eckstein, Hayden & Lawrence Reece (Surf
Life Saving), Courtney Atkinson (Triathlon), Adam Scott
(PGA Golf), Wally Fullerton-Smith, Peter Jackson (Rugby
League), Clark Keating (AFL), Grant Davies
(Canoeing), Duncan Free (Rowing), Mathew Belcher Belchter
(Sailing) and Bernard Tomic (Tennis), some while still at The
Southport School.
