Matthew Wu, Hong Kong
Year 9, Biddle House
Boarding at TSS is very different to what I have previously experienced. In Biddle, I live with 70 boys from different countries and of different ages. It is exciting and I enjoy the family atmosphere. With the help from our Matron and other staff, I've had no difficulties settling in. As a full-time boarder, I participate in various sporting and house activities. I enjoy playing rugby, basketball and track and field. I’m also a member of the house swimming, touch, cross-country and tug-of-war teams. TSS is a great school because it gives us many opportunities to achieve our best.

Year 11, Delpratt House
Currently I attend The Southport School as a Year 11 boarder. Boarding is a whole new chapter, because at home we do not have any boarding schools and the country is dominated by coeducational schools. All the boys in my house are extremely friendly and we all have a great deal of respect for the house and its history. Throughout my schooling life, I have been through six different schools and these schools do not have the spirit like TSS. My first attendance at the First XV Rugby in 2005 was an adrenalin rush, particularly to see the whole school cheer for the team. I could see that I was going to enjoy my time here at TSS. I have also learnt a lot from living with many boys from so many different backgrounds.

Year 11, Thorold House
I have been boarding at TSS since Year 9. Boarding is very different to what I have been used to, as I share with nearly 70 other boys. As a senior I have my own room, which is great for study, as I can do extra work in order to achieve higher marks. Also there are a variety of ways to obtain assistance, for example, if there is a Maths Teacher in the boarding house, I can obtain help with Maths. I enjoy having boys from all over the world in Thorold, it is particularly great to have all Year levels in the boarding house, as it is much like a family. If we receive a group assignment, I believe borders have more of an advantage, because we live together and we can work on the assignment at anytime. Thorold has a great Matron, Resident Masters, Assistant Masters and Housemaster. We also have young Resident Masters, who are also very kind and friendly. I enjoy playing soccer in winter and TSS has the best soccer ovals in Queensland. There are a lot of inter-house competitions at TSS, for example there is House Soccer, House Touch, House Basketball etc.

Year 11, Thorold House
It is currently my second year at TSS and Thorold House. I’m really enjoying the experience, because I have made a lot of friends and some are like family. Being in Grade 11, I have my own room. This allows me to study and have more privacy, which helps when I do extra studying. I love participating in sport and house activities. Overall, I really like TSS and I feel very proud of being part of the School.

Year 12, Delpratt House
Being in a boarding community was a totally new experience when I came to TSS. Sharing my new home with almost 80 other boys who are all different to each other was a different experience. It was easy for me to settle in the house, due to the strong community that exists here at TSS. I am a dormitory captain, which has helped me to get to know a lot of the younger borders and improve my leadership skills. Although we do not have daily care from our parents, the fair and friendly boarding staff makes the boarding house a great home-substitute. Playing Rugby from January to July and Basketball from August to the end of the year gives me the variation that I need next to my school work. TSS is just a nice place to be, because of the unbelievable camaraderie that exists and the endless opportunities provided by the School.
