ICT Student Users Agreement
Use of Internet/E-mail/Network & ICT Devices

Access to TSS Internet/E-mail/Network facilities enables our students to explore thousands of libraries, databases, and bulletin boards whilst exchanging messages with Internet users throughout the world. While the school actively filters Internet requests, families should be warned that occasional content may contain items that are illegal, defamatory, inaccurate or potentially offensive to some people. While our intent is to make Internet/E-mail/Network access available to further educational goals and objectives, students may find ways to misuse these facilities. We believe that the benefits, in the form of information resources and opportunities for collaboration, exceed any disadvantages. Ultimately however, parents and guardians of minors are responsible for setting and conveying the standards that their children should follow when using media and information sources.

I acknowledge the following:
1) The Southport School Network account exists to provide access to curriculum related information. I will not use this account to look for material that is unrelated to the TSS Curriculum unless I have been given written permission by a TSS staff member.

2) Publications dealing with pornography or extreme violence are not permitted at The Southport School. I will not use the Internet to access this type of material.

3) Information published on the Internet may be inaccurate or may misrepresent a person or situation, thus I will take care in my use of this information.

4) I will not break copyright law by copying and/or redistributing another’s work, and I will not use another person’s work without correctly acknowledging them.

5) I agree to use my personal E-mail account in an acceptable manner and will not accept mail for any other person nor allow any other person to access my account. I understand that I am totally responsible for my account and that any misuse in this area will mean the immediate suspension of my entitlement to use this account.

6) I agree that the Network Administrator/Senior Librarian may access the contents of my email account at anytime.

7) I agree that the teaching staff may access the contents of my U Drive account for the purposes of marking work.

8) I agree not to connect devices of any kind into any part of school network or to school computers. This includes personal laptops (or desktops), Switching/Hub/Routing devices, printers, scanners and storage devices (exception here for floppy disks, flash cards & memory sticks, etc). The only devices to be used on the school network are those installed by the school. If I am in doubt, I will ask a TSS staff member.

9) I agree not to bring to TSS, or use at TSS, illegally copied games/software/music, nor encourage other students to do so. I understand that my U Drive or any other storage devices I use on the Network at TSS may be inspected for illegal content. If such content is found in my possession, it will lead to the immediate suspension of my Network access.

10) Section 85ZE of the Commonwealth Crimes Act, states that a person shall not knowingly or recklessly:
a: Use a telecommunications service supplied by a carrier to menace or harass another person; or
b: Use a telecommunications service supplied by a carrier in such a way as would be regarded by reasonable persons as being, in all circumstances, offensive.

I have read and understood this statement and agree to abide by these guidelines.
