Leadership Development

At the commencement of 2006, the study of Leadership was introduced as part of the curriculum at TSS, which is offered from Year 10, 11 and 12.

Capitalising on the school’s academic success, TSS is the first school in Queensland to offer leadership as part of the school curriculum.

The subject is designed to help students improve their knowledge of leadership, by building their confidence and giving meaning to leadership and using leadership efficiently and critically.

Students learn leadership theories and traits giving them fundamental practical skills which can be fostered throughout the community. At TSS, students also assume a variety of leadership roles within the school community and the study of leadership provides a foundation for students to build their skills.

Leadership is an integral skill in the world today, providing students with confidence and an advantage when progressing to university or the work force.

Student Testimonials

James Hill
Year 12

“As a cadet, a dormitory captain and a senior member of the school, the leadership program has taught me the importance of strong leadership in the community.  With a balanced curriculum of theory and practice, the program has given us a well rounded understanding of the skill.”

Jono Moorfoot
Year 12

“As the GPS Swimming Vice Captain for 2007, the leadership class taught by Mr Knox has contributed to my success as a young leader of men.  I have learnt how to deal with younger year levels, decision making and problem solving skills.  Furthermore, we have learnt about different situations, but at the same time we have been examined for these skills through a mixture of theory and practice.  In conclusion, I believe these leadership skills will provide me with a good foundation for the global community”.

Brodie Cunningham
