BPSG BOARDING CO-ORDINATOR’S REPORT
FRIDAY, AUGUST 1ST 2008
Last term and till now has been a very busy and rewarding time in TSS Boarding. The 5 Houses are functioning well each proud of their own identity. All Houses are well placed in the House Shield with Biddle and McKinley likely top 3 place getters. There are excellent leaders and the senior boys have been given ample opportunity to display their leadership skills to the whole Boarding Community. This has been clearly shown with the new format to Formal Dinner which is working very well (see attachment).
After 8 years our matrons now have air conditioning thanks to the generosity of the P & F.The Headmaster, Deputy Headmaster and Boarding staff has been well represented at school promotions both within QLD and Interstate. Cameron Herbert / Lismore, Phil Ward / Emerald, Lindsay Close / Darwin, John Wallace / Barcaldine, Ian Jones / Gunnedah and House visits out west. 5 Boarding staff will be attending the Pastoral Care Boarding Conference in Canberra in the next vacation.
Communication is good between TSS Boarding and the parent body (see attachment). Improvement needed in the communication between academic staff and the parent body (reference agenda item).
Supervised Prep has been an unqualified success and get better with each term. Dedicated paid staff. Top academics in the school. 13 Boarders on the Dean’s list will hopefully grow. At present for Years 7, 8, 9 boys and Year 10 boys whose diligence needs to improve. This term Years 8 & 9 boys will have interviews viewing their Semester 1 reports. Boys will set academic goals for the remainder of the year and these will be posted home to parents in mid-August with copies to Housemasters and the Dean of Studies for future reference.
New staff this year; The Presto family, Dai Abe, Sam Imlay and Tobby Sutherland have all settled in well. Staffing for 2009 will be reviewed by Alan Parsons in the near future looking for at least one year contracts. Our Junior Resident masters have been superb and the staff overall of a high calibre.
A big thankyou to the Boarding Community for the support given to the Peate family
(particularly Janice) following the tragic loss of Nick. The BPSG is very dear to Janice’s heart and it is wonderful that she still has contact with many of our Boarding families across all Houses.
