BOARDERS’ SUPERVISED PREP

No Supervised Prep this week.

Chapel                  McKinley

Last week of what has been a very busy third Term. Next term will be shorter and even busier. Thanks to all House Staff for their excellent work with the boys.

Departure time for country boys via Grahams Bus Services is 6.30am September 19. Return will be Monday  October 6. Please contact Grahams if you have bookings or concerns.

Last week I attended Westech in Barcaldine with Ms Margie McGregor of St Hilda’s. It was great to meet TSS parents past, present and future. The interest in our schools was considerable and many parents passed on their well wishes to the school community. One elderly gentleman asked for the school grace which was duly delivered in both Latin and English. Overall there were 40 contacts over the two days. Westech will be held in three years time. I would like to thank all the TSS staff, Marketing and Admissions for their support of the many Field Days held this term namely Stanthorpe, Goondiwindi, Primex, Emerald, Katherine, Darwin, Gunnedah, Toowoomba and Westech. Hopefully a platform has been made for future enrolments.

Next term Supervised Prep will be held from the second to the seventh week of term. It will be compulsory for Year 8 boys and those Year 9 boys whose diligence is below a Working Well Average. There will be no Supervised Prep for Year 10 boys as next term will be a transition period into senior studies when boys will be working in their own rooms in Years 11 & 12.

In 2009 there will be Supervised Prep available for boys in Year 11. This will be voluntary but a paid member of staff will have an allocated classroom where boys can go for assistance in organisation and for help in their studies from Tuesday to Thursday.

Our Year 11 boys are on camp all of this week and I am sure they are developing their Leadership skills and working on strategies for Year 12.

In the first week of next term the House Basketball and Declamations will be held to determine the winner of the House Shield for 2008.

BIDDLE NEWS

Last week I was at Westech in Barcaldine and I would like to thank Capt. Gary MacLachlan for running the house so efficiently in my absence. It is so reassuring to have a person of Gary's calibre to take my place when I have to serve the school away from Biddle. When I returned on the Thursday evening the House was running like a well oiled machine. Thanks Gary.
When I was away in Barcaldine, parents continually brought up that one of the major strengths of TSS Boarding is the wonderful nurturing done by Matrons and House Staff.

Our Year 11 boys are on camp this week and this will be a wonderful experience for all of them.

Congratulations to Tristan Furney on his selection as our Junior Declamations representative. Tristan will give it everything.
Our Senior representative is still not decided and on Wednesday evening three Year 11 boys Jake Carter, Callum Wilson and Bradley Clegg will contest the position. Our Basketball team is fired up and ready to go. Fingers crossed.

The 21st House Supper will be held on Saturday evening October 11 at 6pm in the Biddle Courtyard followed by Dinner in the Dining Hall. Awards will be presented on the evening. All acceptances are to be in by Wednesday, October 8 to the Housemaster. Thank-you to Mr Robert Ritchie and the House Supper Committee. A lovely memento will be presented to the Valedictorians on the evening. Following the formalities tea and coffee will be available in the Housemaster's residence.

Next term is a hectic one. I would like to see all boys back by 7pm October 6. Year 12's Graduate on Friday November 21st and the final day for Years 8-11 is Friday November 28. I would appreciate it if boys can be here to the end of term please. Any early leave requests are to the Dean of Students, Mr Alan Parsons.

A sad farewell to our two exchange students Donald Robertson from South Africa and Julian Illy from Germany. Both boys have had a great time in Biddle and TSS.

DELPRATT NEWS

The Dellie Staff wish all the students a very happy holiday with their parents and a well earned rest.  The terms in boarding are long and busy ones so we all deserve a break so that we can come back fresh and renewed.

The Year 11’s are off this week enjoying the wonderful experiences of working together in the outdoor education area – the leadership experience is enormous.

Parents please remember to get your replies back for the House Supper so that catering can be arranged.

MCKINLEY NEWS

The conclusion of the term is nearly upon us and McKinley House boys can be satisfied with an excellent effort from most of its members.  The manner in which the boys have conducted themselves for the great majority of the term has been particularly pleasing.

Year Eleven boys are currently on camp. Some of their number will be mindful of leadership positions in 2009, both at the School and House level. The McKinley boys will be electing our 2009 House leaders in the first weeks of next term, and the successful students will be presented at the House Supper.

Parents are reminded that the House Supper presentations commence at 5:30pm in the Annand Theatre on Saturday October 25, before we move to the Dining Hall.  It will be a great evening with 300 people expected.  In the meantime, I wish everyone a happy, refreshing holiday.  Mrs Mackie and I will look forward to welcoming boarders back to the House between 4pm and 7pm on Monday 6 October for the commencement of Term Four.

THOROLD NEWS

Well, that is the end of the exams for Term 3.  A very hectic week, trying to keep the boys motivated when a lot of their peers had already finished.  All the year 11 and 12's were very well behaved in the House and continued their studies throughout the week.  The Year 8, 9 and 10's had in class tests and all boys worked well in the supervised prep.  Hopefully, the good study will turn into good results.

This week, we have the Year 11 boys on camp.  They will be able to leave school for their holidays on their return.  The weather looks favourable for the boys while they are on their expeditions - biking, trekking and canoeing.

The Year 12, 8, 9 and 10's have a week of school left.  This week will be the collection of their exam results and preparation for term 4.  Being Term 4 is only short with many school activities on.  It is important that they do not waste this week.

We are having camps in during the holidays but the cleaning out of lockers is not necessary.  The boys must clean their rooms from top to bottom and it is a good time to shift some gear home before the end of the year.  This is very important for the Year 12's as once they leave, we will be moving boys into their rooms.  So a good clean out of unwanted items for next term is a must.

I have received many RSVP's for the House Dinner, please we need to confirm numbers as soon as possible.  Could we all make a concerted effort to do so during this week.

Next term starts off with a rush - House Declamations and Basketball on the Wednesday and the House Chapel Annual Service and the House Supper on Saturday.  Can all boys please be back on time as this week will have a lot of preparation needed.  We will need many hands on the Saturday for setting up.  If anyone is around to help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Have a great holiday with your son/s and keep safe.
