Atkinson house history

Atkinson house is one of the more recently established houses at The Southport School, as a result of rapidly increasing day boy numbers. It was found in 1986 and named after our Patron, Mr. Tom Atkinson.

Mr. Tom Atkinson had served the school for over 25 years as the Thorold Housemaster, School Counsellor and finally as Registrar. The foundation Housemaster of Atkinson House was Mr. Des Hastie with Mr Virgoe Buckland being
the current Housemaster.

The Atkinson House emblem contains two seagulls and a yacht. Mr Atkinson was a keen sailor and noted for his love of the sea . Consequently the Atkinson House emblem was designed to incorporate our Patron’s passion for the briny depths and to inspire the House to soar to
great heights in pursuit of our goals…
