What are the Awards?
The Duke of Edinburgh Awards are youth awards conducted in over seventy countries and recognised internationally. They began in Britain during the 1930’s to encourage and provide challenges, training and enjoyable learning experiences for young people between 14 and 25 years old.
They were introduced to Australia in the 1950’s and have grown rapidly ever since.
As well as being a lot of fun and providing valuable learning, a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is widely recognised by the wider community as an award earned by self-motivated, determined and responsible young people. Many employers look favourably upon Award recipients.
There are four sections to each Award - Service; Skills; Physical Recreation and Expedition - with a fifth section of a Residential activity for the Gold Award. The requirements for each section vary for each award level, but are easily attainable for anyone who shows commitment.
