General Overview

The Hidden Creek Outdoor and Rural Education Facility offers your organisation an excellent opportunity to conduct, on an affordable basis, a high quality educational program utilising the lush environs of the Mt Warning region.

The facility is available for hire to schools, corporate organisations, youth groups, sporting bodies and service clubs for both educational and recreational activities.

Program Planning

There are countless activities and techniques which can be utilised at Hidden Creek. A special feature about Hidden Creek programs is that no program is planned without Hidden Creek 24-Jul-2007

This visit is aimed at clearly establishing the program’s objectives and ensuring that any planned learning is relevant to, and transferred into, the participants’ main learning/working environment.

Uniqueness

One major thrust of the Hidden Creek philosophy is that the participants interact with the "bush" environment as much as possible.

Hence, the character of the environment is maintained as much as possible by limiting the intrusiveness of human development.

Participants are encouraged to reside in tents and use bush cooking methods as much as possible.

There is a strong philosophy within the successful outdoor education program at The Southport School. Hidden Creek forms an integral part of their personal and social development programme, (providing alternative approaches to leadership development) and also enhances mainstream educational activities.

Hidden Creek Staff

Staff employed at Hidden Creek have long term practical expertise in the planning and implementing of outdoor education programs. They choose to, and are required to maintain an active involvement in personal outdoor activities and in professional development.

 Their combined backgrounds include:

  •  tertiary qualifications in education, science, outdoor education, environmental science, psychology;
  • executive and training positions with Queensland state organisations responsible for providing industry training and standards;
  • registration as instructors with the Australian Board of Canoe Education and Rockclimbing Instructors Association of Queensland;
  • many years of full-time employment in outdoor education roles at The Southport School and centres such as Maroon O.E.C.

If clients wish to use their own instructors, such instructors must be approved by the Hidden Creek staff co-ordinator and attend an in-service program at Hidden Creek prior to their program.
