Preparations for the 2008/9 season are in full swing. Following an extensive review of the senior cricket program at conclusion of the 2008 GPS season there has been some changes and new developments in the TSS Cricket program which will take the program forward.
The 1st XI squad are in their initial training program under the guidance of newly appointed 1st XI Coach Ross Wallace. The welcome addition of Ross to the TSS coaching team brings a wealth of experience from his Representative playing career (incl. Australian U19’s) and experience from his extensive coaching career with Queens CC and as Gold Coast Dolphins Club Coach. Ross is also a TSS old boy, winning GPS premierships for the school. Ross is very particular about how cricket teams train, play and behave and wants to help further build the cricket culture in the school. The focused, hard work of this talented squad will ensure our senior teams will be stronger next year. They will be vying for selection for the planned tour to Perth in January 2009 and represent the school in the GPS season. Their training efforts, performances in club/ rep. cricket and TSS trials leading up to Christmas will be critical.
The 2008/ 9 season is going to be an exciting time for all cricketers with Development Squads and year 8/9 HPE Cricket Excellence training towards representative selection under the guidance of Head Skills Coach Tony Binns. There is also a September school holidays cricket camp, trials, a level 1 coaching course and to top it off TSS has been invited to field an Under 17 side to play in the Cricket Gold Coast Juniors up until Christmas. Not to mention the new boatshed oval turf cricket pitch being laid for use next season, the fact that the Qld Bulls have been training here on Mondays in July/ August and Queensland Cricket are going to run the Decentralised Emerging Players Program at TSS for the up and coming u12-u15 Gold Coast and Tweed players here!
If you are interested in playing in the Gold Coast Junior Competition there are a number of clubs which have expressed interest for TSS cricketers to play pre-Christmas time. Club sign-ons are taking place now.
