School Awards
All of these Awards are presented to students WHO REPRESENT THE SOUTHPORT SCHOOL in various activities. Consideration will NOT be given to those students who represent at Club or Association level in any activity, as they are NOT representing the School.
As of 2005, all students wanting to be considered for School Awards for Sports and Activities MUST apply to the Awards Tribunal. The process is as follows;

Your application will then be considered at the next Awards Tribunal, and you will be notified of the result of this application.
*************************************
1. Composition of Tribunal
The Awards Tribunal will consist of:
The Dean of Students – Chairman
The Director of Sport
Sports Manager – Secretary
Directors of Sports/Activity when required.
2. Procedure
(a) The Director of a sport, activity or service will consult the Coach(es) involved to determine the nominations to be made.
(b) The Director will present nominations with supporting argument, to the Awards Tribunal who will consider the evidence and make a decision in the presence of the Director.
(c) The Tribunal will submit its recommendation to the Headmaster for approval.
(d) The Headmaster may refuse to approve a recommendation on grounds of a boy’s unsatisfactory conduct in, or attitude to, general school life.
3. Representative Badge
Every student selected to represent the School for a single appearance in a first team or equivalent will be awarded a School Badge at Assembly. This badge is to be worn on his sports uniform in an approved fashion.
4. Representative Blazer
The Representative Blazer will be awarded to confirmed members of the Open First Team equivalent. Confirmed membership is defined as selection for a single G.P.S. Championship, e.g. Head of the River, G.P.S. Swimming, Cross Country, Track and Field, or six"run on" appearances where nine rounds of G.P.S. fixtures are played, and commitment to the sport activity throughout the season. This equates to 75% committment to the season at the highest level/team in the particular activity.
5. Honour Pocket Gold
An Honour Pocket in gold may be recommended by the Awards Tribunal where an individual or a team has achieved the exceptional standard as described in the criteria that follow.
6. Sports Honour Award - updated '07
This award is made to a graduating member/s of the school who has achieved three Representative Blazers for Sport, one of these must be a Gold Pocket, in three 'different' sports during his time at TSS. If this requirement is not achieved, it will go to a student/s with highest representative level in their sports in their graduating year.
7. Special Consideration
Directors of Sport may make nominations for Awards outside these stated provisions under the heading "Special Consideration" where sickness or injury makes the achievement of a Representative Blazer impossible under these rules. Where a case is made to the Tribunal, the Chairman will make the appropriate recommendation for consideration by the Headmaster.
8. Underage Winners of Representative Blazers and Honour Pockets
On occasion members of Year 10 may earn a Representative Blazer and win an Honour Pocket. This award will be announced at the time. Representative Blazers may not be worn until the awards have been confirmed in this way.
9. Certificates of Merit
May be awarded to a boy who has not reached colours standard in a particular sport or activity but who has performed creditably and, in the opinion of the Tribunal, should have his efforts recognised. (See guideline paragraph 8).
10. Eligibility for Nomination for Consideration for a School Award
"High proficiency", "good citizenship", "sportsmanship" and attitude and behaviour in the classroom in conformity with the expectations of the School are necessary attributes for any boy who is selected to represent the School.
"High proficiency" denotes an achievement of excellence, and outstanding performance and not simply representation.
"Good citizenship" denotes social behaviour approved by the School, the exercising of integrity, and an adherence to the Rules of the School. In particular, a boy must have displayed a loyalty to his coach and his team by his acceptance and support of the selection process and the decisions arising there from and by his respect for any confidences to which he may have become privy through his part in these processes, if any.
"Sportsmanship" denotes fair play, gentlemanly conduct, and a healthy respect for the sport and the opposing team/crew. In particular, arrogance, rudeness or lack of self control as evidenced by fighting, use of bad language, inability to accept and abide by the "umpire’s" decision, or any other behaviour likely to reflect discredit on himself, his coaches, his team or his school are all examples of bad sportsmanship or conduct unbecoming a gentleman.
Positive and constructive attitudes in the classroom are a necessary prerequisite for the consideration of all awards on the clear understanding that ‘unless all is well in the classroom, nothing is well’.
In addition to the above conditions of eligibility for consideration, the following special conditions are listed below. It must, however, be emphasised that fulfilment of any of the conditions listed below only entitles a boy to consideration for the award of colours.
11. The criteria according to which Representative Blazers, Honour Pockets and Certificates of Merit are awarded are established as follows:

Outstanding Performance
A student who produces an outstanding and exceptional performance in any area of School activity, either academic or co-curricular, will be eligible for the award of an Honour Pocket. Such an award will of necessity include the Representative Blazer.
All recommendations for the award under this heading are to be submitted formally to the Secretary of the Tribunal with appropriate documentation.
It is understood that where injury and or sickness or other special circumstances apply, Directors may make recommendations to the Tribunal for Awards outside these provisions.
All Representative Blazers, Honour Pockets and Certificates of Merit to be awarded as soon as it is practically possible.
The Headmaster’s Medal. The Headmaster’s Citation
Where the performance of an individual or a group is particularly meritorious but falls outside the specific criteria outlined above, the student or students may at the discretion of the Chairman of the Awards Committee be considered by the Committee for one of these Headmaster’s Awards. In all cases the Committee will submit its recommendation to the Headmaster who may or may not approve the award.
