The ability to make music, to sing, to perform, is a lifetime gift that liberates the spirit and provides a marvellous vehicle for self-expression, creativity and building confidence. It’s no accident then, that a very high participation rate in the Performing Arts is a special feature of TSS. We view it as an invaluable experience and so too do the boys, as a large majority seize the opportunities to get involved in the music program, whether by learning an instrument or singing in a choir.
For at least a year, all boys undertake the learning of an instrument through small group tuition that gently introduces them to the excitement and benefits of learning a new skill and performing in a group. Such is the success of this approach that many boys have been encouraged to take up music after their initial experiences in the program.
Music at TSS offers your son the exciting prospect of learning an instrument and participating in ensembles and orchestras through programs designed to cater for different abilities and experiences. Instrumental and vocal music enjoys a very high profile within the school community, and a number of excellent groups work outside of formal school hours in order to broaden students’ ability and appreciation.
