At a recent Year 8 Leadership Team meeting, the boys identified that they would like to create more opportunities for creating friendships between day boys and boarders. The Year 8 group has been especially affected as a result of Covid-19 restrictions and the usual activities that take place in Year 7 have not always been possible for this cohort.
Their first initiative was a games afternoon which took place on Sunday 12 June, where day boys and boarders took part in Archery Tag and shared some pizza together!
Next term, we will be holding ‘Adopt a Boarder’ weekend on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 July. This is the GPS Bye round for next term, and although there will be some sporting fixtures taking place, it will be a much reduced program. We are hoping to arrange for all of our 47 Year 8 boarders to be hosted by a local family on the Saturday night, and for most of the day on the Sunday, returning to the boarding houses in time for evening meal at 5:30pm. It is a great opportunity to experience some family life. Simple activities where the boys are spending time together are all that is needed.
As the boys get older, and friendships strengthen, the opportunity then arises for day boys to go to boarders’ homes during the school holidays. For both day boys and boarders, this is an aspect of a TSS education that simply does not exist at other schools, and so we would love as many Year 8 boys as possible to benefit from this.
If you are a Year 8 day family and are happy to host a boarder on this weekend, please let us know, through this link HERE. If you have already made arrangements to host a particular boy then please enter his name also, although this is not a necessity. Whilst we will try to get as many families involved as possible, if you can host more than one boy, please also indicate that when replying. Early next term, we will pair the boys up and confirm the arrangements.
