Nicholas Stansbie – Biddle Housemaster
Welcome back to Term 4! The holidays seemed to pass very quickly and it was good to see the excitement with which the boys have settled into Term 4.
The Y12’s are currently wondering where the time has gone, as the clock ticks and their Graduation approaches. They have been actively reflecting on their time in Biddle whilst at the same time preparing for life beyond TSS, whether that be locally, in Brisbane, interstate or overseas. For the first time in a number of years, Biddle are travelling well in the House Competition, currently placing fourth and so the Y12’s have been organising training sessions in advance of the upcoming House Cluster, comprising Basketball, Touch Football and Chess.
The next big sporting event on the horizon is the GPS Athletics Championships in which many Biddle boys will be involved, and they have been training and preparing for this for many months prior. We will have a large contingent of boys making the journey to supporting them as they represent the school and aim for glory in the last GPS event of the season.
A number of Biddle boys are preparing for next term’s GPS Cricket season, and it was good to see Tom Watts join Scott Palombo in the First XI in the recent state tournament, taking a few wickets for not very many runs.
Rowing training is also well underway, and it is great to see the boys taking the responsibility for getting themselves to training and working hard whilst they are there. It is a great context for life – you get out what you are prepared to put in – and many boys are now not only much more conscious of the level of exercise they are incorporating into their daily routines, but also thinking more carefully about their diet and what they are eating.
By now, all boys should know their program for next year. Exams and assessments are taking place in week 5, so that there is time to begin the 2018 courses before the holidays. This is all part of the transition to the new curriculum and assessment that our current Year 9 boys will be the first to experience. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your son’s course selections, please get in touch and I will ensure that these questions are answered. The boys do seem keen to do well, and Prep sessions in the house are being well observed.
Finally from me – another reminder of the fast approaching House Chapel Service and Supper on Sunday 29th October. I look forward to seeing you all there!
