Term 2, Week 8
Mr Leigh Holtsbaum – Housemaster
With holidays just around the corner all the boys are excited about finishing off the term. It has been a last few week academically and on the sports field. Last week was a big academic week for our Senior Year 12 boys finishing off exam block. It was great to see the boys studying hard and working to achieve their best possible results. It was a stressful time but all the boys came out the other side and were for the most part happy with how they performed. The Years 8-11 boys are now well into their next units of work and assessments before the end of term. It has been pleasing to see some of the boys making use of the academic help available by attending study gym on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, Up-Skills on Monday and Thursday afternoons and Old Boys tutoring during prep sessions. With all this hard work being put in by the Biddle boys it is easy to see why they are the best performing academics and most diligent boys of all the Boarding houses.
Culturally there has been a lot of music performances with Nick Bowen, Harry Wells, Connor Watt and Cameron Vele being show cased at several events. The quality of music these boys produce is outstanding and hopefully we will be able to see them perform at the House Supper. Also the Year 10 boys have been enjoying the Dance classes at St Hilda’s and eagerly await Wednesday evenings to show off their talents on the dance floor.
On the sports field many Biddle boys represented the Red White and Blue of TSS at the GPS Cross Country Championships at Limestone Park. It was excellent to see in the under 15 runners Joe Madden and Saxon Luke, under 16 Charlie Blok and Cameron Vele and in the opens Harry Blok, Ryan King and Oscar Billson running for the crest. The boys all did a fantastic job in their respective races with all the open boys placing in the top 50 runners and earning themselves a Representative Blazer. The GPS Gymnastics Championships were also a very successful event with TSS placing a close second behind BGS. Couper Baskus represented the School 1st VI with pride and did a fantastic job across all the apparatus.
There was plenty of football and Tennis action last weekend with many of the Biddle boys representing against Gregory Terrace with some great results recorded across the day. The 1st VI battled it out and scored the winning goal with only minutes to go in the game taking home a 1 – 0 victory and the Tennis 1st IV continued their winning ways. As always the Sharky Army was vocal in there support with Charlie Cox and Tom Watts leading the way and most Biddle boys getting the opportunity to lead War Cry’s throughout the matches. The Rugby Boys had a great Season Launch and the A Squads had a hit out against the Gold Coast Cyclones with many Biddle boys getting a run the various A squads. Congratulations to Vice House Captain Wilson Blyth who has been selected in the 1st XV and also been named as Vice-Captain of Rugby.
This coming weekend the Football and Tennis teams will have fixtures with Football against Ipswich Grammar School. Biddle House will be well represented across the day and it will be a great opportunity to the majority of the Biddle boys in action. The Rugby boys will also have their final trial match against IGS next Wednesday evening at Sunnybank Rugby Club.
Around the house the boys have plenty of fun activities with Golf, Bowling, Tennis and going to the AFL Suns game. As always a few boys have also been enjoying the fishing off the jetty with the Year 10 boys really get hooked. The boys have been catching some great Morwong, Bream, Flathead, Moses Perch and Tusk Fish.
Biddle boys enjoying the afternoon Bowling.
We look forward to finish off the Term well and the boys are keen to compete in the final two House events of Athletics and Theatre Sports to finish off a great term in Biddle House.
With Term 2 of 2019 coming to an end, it has been a full-on term of Football, Tennis and many other extra-curricular activities. The Biddle house has been empty mostly every Saturday due to sport and its excellent to see the boys getting out and active. Also, it was excellent to see so many Biddle Boys competing at the GPS Cross Country.
Both House Clusters are still to come. First up is Track and Field where Biddle is looking for a strong result because many of the Biddle boys are fit coming off Cross Country season. Next is Theatre Sports, which is a new house cluster this year that is replacing House Drama.
Also, a huge weight has been lifted off of the boy’s shoulders now that they have finished their exams. With Year 8-11 exams a few weeks back and Year 12 exams last week, the Biddle boys used their time wisely to study as the new ATAR system is progressively getting harder.
Overall, it has been another great term, and I’m sure the boys are eager to return next term as its Rugby and Basketball season. I hope all boys have a restful and enjoyable three-week break and return to school fully fueled ready to go again.
