Biddle House News

Mr Nicholas Stansbie – Biddle Housemaster

Term 1 Week 7

We are now well into the second half of the term, however, there is still so much yet to fit in.  Exam week for the Y8-10’s is over, and they are now into the second Unit of their courses.  The Y11 and Y12 boys will start their exams on Friday and are well into their preparations for these, whilst also completing assignments.

On the sporting field, Eli Fahey and Tom Watts are continuing to be strong performers in the TSS Cricket First XI as the boys dodge the rain and edge closer to the Premiership; Cameron Vele was a member of the GPS Swimming team that finished in second place in the Championships in Chandler last Friday, and Harry Cox in the First VIII continues to lead the Biddle rowing contingent, as the climax of their season approaches at the Head of the River next Saturday.

It was wonderful also to see Taj Merrion appointed as the Drama Captain for 2018 – another recognition of the qualities we in Biddle know he has.  Taj’s first job was to announce the theme for this year’s House Drama Festival – the Underdog.  Another unique Biddle production will surely follow next term.

The twin super-villains of the term have most definitely been the two viruses, Norovirus and Influenza B.  Fortunately we have two super-heroes to help us combat them in our cleaner Yvonne James and our new Matron, Lorina Swindley.  Lorina takes up the story…

My start at TSS has been more than just a little lively and at times, very challenging, but has allowed me to witness strength as everyone bonded together during difficult times.  Our family spent many years living in Asia and survived Bird flu and SARS, so Norovirus whilst dreaded was certainly not life threatening, although I’m sure some of the sick boys thought it was!  We have overcome the worst, but are vigilant with encouraging the boys to maintain hygiene standards.

I’m excited to be back at TSS after a temporary stint at Relief Matron in Thorold in 2016 for a term, whilst that same year ending my time as a Day Student Parent with our son graduating as well.  It is great to have both backgrounds as life at TSS can be all encompassing.  It has been fun and interesting getting to know your sons and the terrific Biddle Staff.

Having such a hectic start to the year, we now hope to reinstate monthly birthday events and other activities and always keen to hear from your Boys for new ideas to make their boarding experience even better.

Alas, already we have a large amount of un-named clothes and towels. We urge all boys to check constantly so we can name items.  We have decided to donate any unclaimed items to our TSS Round Square group who have a project in Cambodia for used clothing.

I look forward to meeting you all throughout the year and please contact me should you or your Son need anything that I may be able to assist with. or 07.55319995
