Mr Ashley Crook – Biddle Assistant Housemaster
A clear highlight of the fortnight in Biddle has been the boy’s excellent performance in the House Drama Festival. The theme was “Man up” which looked at the questioning of what does it mean to be a man, who is a good man? what do good men do? in addition, many more aspects of manhood. The boys were the first act of the whole festival and they did not disappoint. The boys finished in 3rd place in the House standings (only ½ a point of second.) This result is testament to the countless hours of rehearsals, planning and practicing of lines in their spare time. A special mention must be given to staff member, Ms Belinda Pilgrim and senior boy, Sandy Hickson, for their strong application and care for this performance.
The Year 12 Formal was held last Saturday. A fantastic time had by all who attended. The Biddle boys were well behaved, well mannered and acted as fine young gentlemen on the night.
Next week sees many boys completing exams and submission of assignments in multiple subjects. It is great to see the boys work hard during evening prep/study sessions and have genuine interest to do their best. This conscientious attitude has enabled Biddle House to receive very good student diligence scores. We can proudly say that out of the four Senior Boarding houses, the boys from Biddle had the best diligence average scores. These hard working traits will serve the boys well in future years.
Soccer and Tennis are in full swing on the weekends with a high representation of Biddle boys in teams. To see firsthand the dedication towards these sports throughout the week by both coaches and players is admirable. The boys have to commit to a team for the season, then actively participate in the chosen sport and commit to early morning and afternoon training sessions with their mates. The lifelong lessons that are learning through this is profound and I and other Biddle staff are proud of the boys’ efforts.
Recently there have been an update of photos on the Biddle House flickr page. Please open the link below and stay up to date with photos of the life at TSS and Biddle House.
Also, the Biddle facebook has up and running. Like the Biddle flickr page, the facebook page will keep you up to date with life at TSS and Biddle House. I have liked other facebook pages that you will hopefully enjoy such as the Australian Boarding School Association, Smiling Mind (Mindfulness Mediation) and The Institute of Positive Education, plus a few more.
This page is in its final stages of construction. An email will be sent to all parents within the week indicating its active status.
Recently the Year 12 boys had a ginger beer with Mr Crook down on the TSS Jetty. We all enjoyed the tranquil setting on dusk and had an open discussion on where the boys were hoping to do their further study, elaborating on their home away from TSS and enjoying a random fact about themselves. All had a few good belly laughs. Also, the boys checked the Biddle crab pots and only caught small bream! Nick and I are very proud of these boys proving themselves to be excellent role models to the younger boys in the house.
