Marriage in the School Chapel

Please note that we only marry TSS Old Boys, members of staff and children of staff.

Application for marriage at TSS must be made to the Headmaster.

Please do not make further arrangements until the date and time are confirmed by the school.

The wedding is conducted by one of the School Chaplains and must be according to the Rites of the Anglican Church of Australia.

If you have a friend of the family who is ordained in a Christian church, they are welcome to be part of the service, but you must ask the chaplain before making any arrangements.

Date and Time

You may wish to check available days and times by visiting the online Chapel Calendar. This will give an indication of availability but remember that the information on this calendar is constantly updated and is at this stage for information only. Marriages usually take place on a Saturday and we prefer that there is only one ceremony on each of these days.

The bright yellow boxes that state “Holy Matrimony” are firm bookings. Some dates may not be available – major religious holidays, school events etc. The red and brown boxes (Saints Days and School Holidays) do not preclude a wedding on that day. We are happy to marry in the school holidays but there are times when the Chapel is closed for maintenance or both Chaplains are on holiday. If in doubt please e-mail.

Online Application

Online application form

You will receive an acknowledgment of application. Please note that we only marry TSS Old Boys, members of staff and children of staff.

Headmaster’s Letter

The Headmaster will then write to you. If he gives his permission his letter will include the Application Form, Payment Remittance, Catering Request and a copy of the Chaplain’s Memo for your wedding photographer.

Once the completed Application Form, Payment Remittance, and Catering Request are received, a receipt will be issued and only then will the wedding with date and time be confirmed. Details are entered on the online Chapel Calendar. Please check that the details here are correct.

The Chaplain will contact you and invite you both to an interview. This must take place at least five weeks before the wedding. At this interview please bring an original copy of both your Birth Certificates and evidence of Baptism and/or Confirmation. At this interview, arrangements will be made for the rehearsal.

At the moment the cost for the Marriage Ceremony is $1000 – this includes Music, Flowers, and Diocesan Fees. We reserve the right to increase this without notice.

Change of Date or Time

In the event of a change to date and time please consult the online Chapel Calendar and e-mail the Chaplain asap.

Cancellation

Please confirm cancellation in writing to the Headmaster. A pro rata refund will then be made.

Prior to the Wedding

  • The Notice of Intended Marriage Form
  • Meeting the Chaplain
  • Rehearsals

Divorce

We recommend that divorced persons give plenty of warning as the process involves a dispensation from the Bishop and the expectation that you are practicing Anglicans.

The current arrangement is that this florist will supply two arrangements for both sides of the altar to the cost of $275 which is covered by the fees paid to the school. If you want more flowers you must arrange for that at your own cost and with consultation with the chaplain.

On the Day

The Bridal Car may draw up at the Chapel door.

All other cars may park in any of the school car parks.

The groom and his attendants should arrive at the Chapel 15 minutes prior to the wedding time. The Bridal Party should aim to arrive on time.
Witnesses signing the registers must be at least 18 years.

Please remind your guests that

  1. No confetti, please.
  2. Turn off those mobile phones!
  3. No smoking anywhere on the school premises.

Photographs may be taken:

  1. At the church door for the bride’s entrance.
  2. During the Service from the Founders Stone.
  3. After the signing of the register.
  4. As the couple process down the aisle at the end of the service.
  5. Please confirm before booking a Video Camera.

Please give your photographer a copy of the enclosed ‘Chaplain’s Memo to Wedding Photographers’.

Marriage according to Christian teaching is the lifelong union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life. By being married in a Christian church you are affirming that you wish to base your marriage on Christian principles and that you intend to live together according to God’s law. Also in being married in the chapel, you come to seek God’s blessing and grace in your life together.
