Mr Tony Watt, Dean of Boarding
In recent times, the Health Centre approached the School to ascertain feedback from boarding parents on the health services provided by the Health Centre. To this end, the below survey is provided to all boarder parents to provide us with your feedback so we can ensure we are meeting the needs of our boys. An individual email will also be sent to boarder families with the survey link prior to the commencement of the holidays.
The recent etiquette dinner was a huge success for our Year 7 and 8 boarders as they demonstrated perfect manners for our St Hilda’s guests. As promised, we managed to put together a small DVD of the evening and our thanks goes to Connor McGregor for completing this. I must add when I saw myself on the below footage it prompted me into an immediate diet!
Last week, both Andrew Hawkins and I travelled to St George for the 46th Annual Queensland ICPA Conference. It was great to catch up with TSS families and support such a worthwhile organisation. During the conference, it was great to see the acknowledgement of Jacqui Beale by the ICPA for her commitment to the body. On our way home, we popped in to say hello to families in Toobeah before heading to Gundy. We pitched a TSS tent at the Gundy Emus grounds where we mingled with the locals and supported a great day in memory of TSS Old Boy and parent Greg Rigby. It was a wonderful afternoon and evening.
On Monday, we held our termly formal dinner. Our Head Boarder, Harry Smith, addressed the boarding community exceptionally well, highlighting memorable moments during the term. Rogers were awarded the Mackie/Parsons Cup for best House diligence while Delpratt were the term winners of the Browne Family Cup for best sporting House. Prior to the dinner, the termly staff versus student fixture was on – Ping Pong! Karel Bos and I put on a display of table tennis that could only be described as graceful as we dominated the table forging to a 17-6 lead. Feeling somewhat sorry for the boys, we handed our bats and sweatbands over to fellow boarding staff members not only for our lead to dissipate, but ended up losing 21-19 to the students. Mr Bos and I are still coming to terms with the loss.
We were honoured to have current staff member and Biddle Old Boy Mr Dan Trollope address the dinner as he spoke about his days as a boarder and the battles he endured since his accident. The boys loved hearing from a man whose strength of character is exceptional – thanks Dan.
