It is my pleasure to announce to the community that Mr Cliff Powys has been appointed to the position of Preparatory School Deputy Head from the commencement of the 2020 school year.
Mr Powys is an extremely experienced and talented educator having spent the last 8 years as a school Principal in his own right at a number of Education Queensland schools. Prior to this he has held the position of Deputy Principal, eLearning Mentor Teacher and prior to this years of experience as a primary school teacher in a number of Gold Coast schools.
In 2016, Mr Powys was awarded the ‘Leader of the Year 2016 – Young Leader of the Year award by the Australian Institute of Management for his work in providing opportunities for young people to follow their passion in Information Technology, and he also is a National Assessor for the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership. In this role, Mr Powys leads teacher quality improvement and undertakes the assessment for teachers who are seeking the status of ‘Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher’.
With a major in Science and an interest in a range of school activities, Mr Powys is looking forward to contributing widely across our school’s operations. He has an outstanding record in working with students in a pastoral capacity to ensure strong growth and personal development for all.
As a Gold Coast resident from childhood, Mr Powys is very familiar with TSS and the fine reputation it has for educating the young men of our city. He is very excited to have the opportunity to contribute to our community and the chance to get to know the boys and their families over the coming months.
I look forward to introducing Mr Powys to the school community in the new year.
What a great success the Christmas Carols was on Sunday. Despite the decision to not go ahead with the fireworks, the night was in no way diminished and everyone seemed to have a very enjoyable time. This event keeps getting bigger and bigger and I’m certain that most of us have no idea how much work goes into making it all run so smoothly.
Again I really must give my heartfelt thanks to all who contributed their time and energy. We are a fortunate community indeed, to have so many people willing to give of themselves so that the majority can enjoy this event.
Thanks to Mr Sproule for being the MC of the event and Mr Baker and Ms Dew for their leading the community in prayer. Our fabulous music department for the live band and co-ordination of all choral performances. All staff who sang in the choir and all of the boys who performed across the afternoon and evening. Also the Reception teachers and boys for their special presentation.
Of course thanks to Santa for attending and his helpful elves, Jordan Scott, Stirling and Hudson Walsh, Levi Luther
Special mention of Linda Quinn, Sarah Hill, Sarah Corbett, Moraya Wilson, Merandah Parr, Jacqui Lewis, Eva Coughran, Nikii Frame, Kelly Prendergast, Spring Bird, Lexi Bos, Rebecca Beeton, Kim Bibby, Karol Bos and his boarders.
Special thanks to the Hill, Cole and Williams families who provided financial support for the event and also to sponsors, Morgans Stockbroking Wealth Management Superannuation, Lucy Cole Prestige Properties and Corpsure Insurance Broking.
Thanks to Condev for their community spirit in donating the safety fencing for the event and to our AV partners Coastal Sound and Lighting. Their snow machines were a real hit!
Thanks also to the Frame, Drummond and Bird families and to the Brickworks businesses who donated prizes for the Christmas Carols Raffle.
All parents of boys in Years 3 to 6 who will be presented with an award at the Celebration of Achievement ceremony next Wednesday, will have received an email alerting them to this yesterday.
Please do not ask what the award is for as this is something kept as a surprise for the boys on the day. We send out notification so that parents have the opportunity to attend to witness their son’s acknowledgement.
When talking at the Christmas Carols on Sunday I wrongly spoke of the Preschool Christmas Concert being on this Friday, when of course it is Monday November 25. I’m sorry that this caused some confusion.
Mark you calendar with the following important dates, you don’t want to miss out!
