Deputy Headmaster and Head of Preparatory School

Mr Jeff Symms

2017 Friends of Prep Trivia Night

Congratulations and many warm thanks to Kelly Prendergast, Bec Gordon, Robert Baker, Brian Rowe, Mark Hoppe and the Friends of Prep Committee for their outstanding work in delivering yet another fun filled Trivia Night.

Trivia winners this year were none other than the Wax Heads and Pencil table, led by chief Wax Head and Pencil Jacqui and Jeff Lewis, Kathy and Greg Ashe, Bronwyn and Neil Smith, Nikki and Greg Kay, Holly Duncan and Anne Marie and Anthony Mayes.

Among the plethora of raffle prizes and delicious catering by Fresh Food Friday the Trivia Night Auction saw some very happy parents who walked away with fantastic investments in sporting memorabilia including a surfboard signed by Mick Fanning and Steph Gilmore, a basketball encased in a gorgeous glass cabinet signed by Pero Cameron and a t-shirt framed and signed by Valentino Rossi. Congratulations to those parents and thank you to the Gooch and Prendergast-Burtenshaw families for donating these wonderful items.

The 2017 Trivia Night raised $6000 in funds which will go straight back into the Prep School for our boys.

Thank you so much to our wonderful sponsors: the Jurisich family of Stone and Wood, the James family of Gold Coast Brewery, the Grasso family of Belvue Property Developments, the Ferraro Family of NPD Property Group, the Jackson family of Main Beach Optical, the Prendergast-Burtenshaw family of Prendergast Fasteners P/L, the Gooch family, Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club, D’Arcy Arms Irish Pub and Dreamweavers Events for transforming our room.

Thank you so much for your support of our wonderful TSS school and community. We hope to welcome more parents, teachers and friends next year.

Public Speaking Success

The annual TSS Preparatory School Public Speaking Championships are always a highlight of the calendar and those parents who are lucky enough to hear the boys speak are always astounded at the boys knowledge and confidence. Public Speaking is often listed as people’s no. 1 fear and yet as some stage in life we all find ourselves having to address an audience – as part of our work or at social events.

Each year at the conclusion of our own school’s program we encourage boys in Year 5 and 6 to enroll in the AB Paterson Public Speaking Competition as an excellent way for them to continue their involvement and compete against other students.  Speaking in front of an unfamiliar audience is a different experience than speaking in front of one’s classmates and family and the boys greatly benefit from the opportunity to hear other students speak. A number of Year 4 boys also took part in a non-competitive section of the event before the last school holidays.

This year 28 boys registered to participate in the competition which was held on Tuesday evening:-
