Drawing for storytelling

Ms Deb Schinckel, Prep Librarian

Illustrator Craig Smith worked with our Years 3 and 4 last week in a workshop around drawing for storytelling. He spoke about the questions and choices an illustrator makes in composing illustrations and modelled a technique to work it out. He provided a guided drawing task which included where and when is the story set, what moment to draw, what viewpoint, arranging shapes on the picture plane and movement and body language, using light and shadow. The boys really enjoyed the sessions and learnt some very useful skills to use when illustrating their stories.

Thank you to Friends of Preo for again supporting the visiting author/illustrator program, the boys gain a great deal from these workshops.
