Day Housemaster – Pastoral Care

Commencing January 2020

The Southport School is a leading Anglican Boarding and Day school for boys situated on the Gold Coast. The Southport School has been established for 118 years and is committed to providing excellence in leadership, learning and teaching, pastoral care and extra-curricular endeavors within a balanced, holistic Christian environment.

The role of both Day Housemaster is key to the delivery of the vertical pastoral care program in place for our students at The Southport School and as such applicants should have extensive experience in delivering pastoral programs to students aged between 12 and 18 years. Knowledge and operational understanding of positive psychology and emotional intelligence would be considered highly beneficial.

Candidates are encouraged to highlight their leadership experience, learning and teaching philosophy, provide evidence of innovative practice in the classroom, articulate an understanding of boy’s education in their teaching field and also provide an insight into their pastoral care practices and ideology and how they have imbedded any learnings from recent research or professional development. This role will hold a teaching load and therefore applications should include areas of teaching and learning.

Additionally, candidates are encouraged to identify additional areas of engagement or participation or value add in their current educational community outside of the classroom or where they would be prepared to engage in our own community outside of their teaching and pastoral role.

Director of Cadets

Commencing January 2020

The Southport School is a leading Anglican Day and Boarding school for boys situated on the banks of the beautiful Nerang River in the heart of the Gold Coast. The Southport School has been established for 118 years and is committed to providing a wholistic education for boys focused on excellence in leadership, learning and teaching, pastoral care and extra-curricular endeavors within a balanced Christian environment.

TSS has had a long and proud tradition of Cadet Leadership and Service embedded in the curriculum for all boys in years 8 and 9 and for our senior students through to year 12. This program seeks to expose our students to a culture and tradition of service and mate-ship, to developing the life-long skills of team work and problem solving as well as exposing them to adventure and opportunity.

The Southport School is now seeking a candidate who will lead and continue to develop the program commencing from the start of the school year in January 2020.

Candidates will be required to:

  • Command, lead and manage all aspects of the Cadet program.
  • Direct and guide the cadet program with an emphasis on developing and promoting cadet leadership, adventure education, and ceremonial event management as and when required.
  • Ensure all compliance requirements are managed and endorsed by the School and Cadet program.
  • Ensure that recruitment and all operational practices meet the code of conduct and student protection guidelines of the school and the safe training practices and protocols of the Cadet program.
  • Establish and maintain strong and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders including formal Cadet Leadership, the School (staff, students and families), and the wider Community.

Candidates must have:

  • Strong organisational capacity and capabilities – must have sound computer literacy skills and abilities (Word, Excel, OneNote, etc).
  • Be able to manage competing priorities as well working around and within the school calendar – event management experience is advantageous but not essential.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills that are supportive, collaborative, and that engage and encourage stakeholder involvement in the program.
  • Delivers and supports a program that is outcomes focused, that is aligned with the vision and mission of the school and the Cadet program, and that both engages and supports the aspirations of staff and students.

Candidate must be willing to hold a Command Course qualification and an Officer in Charge qualification. Candidates should also consider where else across the school they may be able to contribute and engage in supporting the wholistic educational and leadership program for our students.
