Teacher of Mathematics and Science

(Fixed term contract – 1 year) – Commencing from 2019

The Southport School is a leading Anglican Day and Boarding School for boys situated on the banks of the beautiful Nerang River in the heart of the Gold Coast. The Southport School (TSS) has been established for 117 years and is committed to providing excellence in leadership, learning and teaching, pastoral care and extra-curricular endeavours within a balanced, holistic Christian environment. The School has a vibrant Boarding, Education, Cultural and Sporting program that extends across the full year and two campuses.

The Southport School is seeking a full time teacher of mathematics and science commencing in January 2019. The school is seeking candidates who are intuitive, vibrant self-starters, and who are focused on supporting boys learning outcomes through innovative teaching practices.

Ideally candidates will have recent and significant experience and strong understanding of the mathematics and science curriculum, and demonstrated experience in developing skills and confidence in students in the fields of mathematics and science.

Additionally, we are focused on appointing a candidate who is committed to a holistic involvement in school life, including academic, cultural and sporting and/or boarding and who also may have held or holds pastoral care responsibilities.

Candidate applications should:

  • Detail recent Mathematics and Science teaching experience;
  • Identify knowledge of the incoming curriculum changes;
  • Demonstrate their current use and integration of technology across the curriculum,
  • Discuss innovative teaching practices, and
  • Articulate proposed involvement in the school community through co-curricular or extra-curricular interests.

Boarding House Supervisor

Resident Master Residential position commencing July 2018

The Southport School is a leading Anglican Day and Boarding school for boys situated on the banks of the beautiful Nerang River in the heart of the Gold Coast.  The Southport School has been established for 116 years and is committed to providing excellence in leadership, learning and teaching, pastoral care and extra-curricular endeavors within a balanced, holistic Christian environment.

We are extremely proud to say that boarding life has always been an integral feature of TSS since the first boarders arrived in 1909 into Thorold, McKinley and Delpratt Houses. The boarders bring to TSS particular personal qualities and give the School a soul, a life and sense of community.

The boarding community is now seeking expressions of interest for candidates interested in the position of Resident Master – this is a live in, work out position.  We are seeking exceptional individuals who are willing to become an integral part of our Boarder’s daily lives and our Boarding community – ideally blending this opportunity with candidates’ study schedules ideally in the field of education or professional roles in the community.

In the role of Resident Master, you will be required to provide up to 15 hours of residential supervisory duty per week (rostered term time – 37 weeks per year) and in return will be provided with:

  • Single accommodation only (studio room with kitchenette, ensuite and utilities included);
  • on-site catering (dining hall access during term time);
  • access to the extensive onsite facilities, and;
  • the opportunity to be part of, and become an active member in a vibrant and diverse Boarding community that focuses on the holistic well-being of our Boarding students.

To be considered for this role applicants should:

  • Hold a current first aid certificate;
  • be prepared to complete ABSA Level 1 Boarding/Duty of Care qualification
  • have completed or be engaged in 2nd or 3rd year of tertiary or post-graduate studies or be working ideally in the field of education;
  • be aligned with the vision of the school and the Anglican Ethos; and
  • have a passion for working with, and supporting the wellbeing and safety of young people as a mentor and a support person in a supervisory capacity.
