Teacher of Science and Design & Technologies – Full time

Fixed term contract appointment commencing Terms 2 and 3, 2021

The Southport School is a leading Anglican Day and Boarding School for boys situated on the banks of the beautiful Nerang River in the heart of the Gold Coast. The Southport School (TSS) has been established for 120 years and is committed to providing excellence in leadership, learning and teaching, pastoral care and extra-curricular endeavours within a balanced, holistic Christian environment. The School has a vibrant Boarding, Education, Cultural and Sporting program that extends across the full year and two campuses.

We have a full-time opportunity for an experienced Teacher of Science (Junior – Year 8 and 9) and Design and Technology commencing from semester two (term 2, 2021).

The school is seeking a candidate who is intuitive, a vibrant self-starter, and who is focused on supporting boys learning outcomes through innovative and supportive teaching practices specifically in year 8. The successful candidate should also be able to demonstrate an understanding of the nuances of teaching boys, along with a willingness to go above and beyond in engaging with our students and becoming an active participant in the cultural fabric of the school.

Ideally candidates will have recent experience and significant understanding of the ACARA Junior Science and Design and Technologies (workshop) curriculum and must have demonstrated recent experience in developing skills and confidence in students in this subject area. Candidates must have a proven ability and be able to discuss strategies for the safe management of students undertaking multiple tasks in a Design and Technology workshop environment

Our teachers are committed to a holistic involvement in school life, which includes a commitment to engaging in academic, pastoral, cultural, sporting and/or boarding activities and disciplines. Candidates should include in their application areas in which they are currently contributing to the co-curricular or extra-curricular life of their school community as well as any pastoral care responsibilities or opportunities that they have engaged in.
