Rowing Coaches

2018-2019 Season

The Southport School is a leading Anglican Day and Boarding school for boys situated on the beautiful Nerang River on the Gold Coast.  The Southport School has been established for 115 years and is committed to providing excellence in leadership, learning and teaching, pastoral care and extra-curricular endeavors within a balanced, holistic Christian environment for young men.

The schools’ rowing sheds are located on The Southport School grounds and our rowers compete in both the Queensland GPS (Greater Public Schools) and other State or local regattas associated with the GPS competition. The rowing season begins at the start of October (2018) before breaking up for the Christmas break and returning in 2019 finishing in the middle of March.

The Southport School is looking for qualified and experienced rowing coaches who are keen to be active in helping our rowing program grow and improve. Desired knowledge and skills are;

  • A sound understanding of rowing technique(s)
  • A basic understanding of sport physiology
  • An ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with adolescent athletes
  • An ability to develop a strong rapport with young athletes and the community
  • A willingness to be an active member of the team and get involved with boat loading and regatta management
  • Must be reliable and able to attend all training sessions and related meetings associated with the role

Vacancies exist the following year levels:

  • Year 11 Eight Coaches (3 Mornings + Saturday)
  • Year 10 Quad Coaches (2 Mornings + Saturday)
  • Year 9 Quad Coaches (1 Morning, 1 Afternoon + Saturday)
  • Year 8 Quad Coaches (1 Afternoon + Saturday)

Head of Department – History and Social Sciences

The Southport School is seeking to appoint a Head of Department – History and Social Sciences (HaSS) who is passionate about the delivery of a world-class HaSS program.  We are looking for a leader who will lead and capture the hearts, minds and creative abilities of our boys through a demonstrated passion for their subject area and through their enthusiastic and dynamic teaching practices as well as demonstrate and deliver intimate curriculum knowledge.

Key areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:

  • Extensive Australian Curriculum development and deployment experience, and leading curriculum focus in line with school and departmental initiatives,
  • demonstrated engagement with QCAA new senior preparation processes,
  • participating in supporting and delivering the academic and holisitc vision of the School,

  • nurturing positive relationships between students, teachers and stakeholders, and
  • ensuring that all statutory obligations as required by the QCAA in relation to the subject areas are met.

Candidates are asked to demonstrate a willingness to go above and beyond in engaging with our students and are encouraged to identify additional areas of engagement or participation in their current educational community outside of the classroom or where they would be prepared to engage in our own community outside of their teaching role.

Ideally candidates will have recent and significant experience and strong mathematical understanding of the senior mathematics curriculum, and demonstrated experience in developing skills and confidence in students in the field of Mathematics.

Boarding House Supervisor

Resident Master Residential position commencing July 2018

The Southport School is a leading Anglican Day and Boarding school for boys situated on the banks of the beautiful Nerang River in the heart of the Gold Coast.  The Southport School has been established for 116 years and is committed to providing excellence in leadership, learning and teaching, pastoral care and extra-curricular endeavors within a balanced, holistic Christian environment.

We are extremely proud to say that boarding life has always been an integral feature of TSS since the first boarders arrived in 1909 into Thorold, McKinley and Delpratt Houses. The boarders bring to TSS particular personal qualities and give the School a soul, a life and sense of community.

The boarding community is now seeking expressions of interest for candidates interested in the position of Resident Master – this is a live in, work out position.  We are seeking exceptional individuals who are willing to become an integral part of our Boarder’s daily lives and our Boarding community – ideally blending this opportunity with candidates’ study schedules ideally in the field of education or professional roles in the community.

In the role of Resident Master, you will be required to provide up to 15 hours of residential supervisory duty per week (rostered term time – 37 weeks per year) and in return will be provided with:

  • Single accommodation only (studio room with kitchenette, ensuite and utilities included);
  • on-site catering (dining hall access during term time);
  • access to the extensive onsite facilities, and;
  • the opportunity to be part of, and become an active member in a vibrant and diverse Boarding community that focuses on the holistic well-being of our Boarding students.

To be considered for this role applicants should:

  • Hold a current first aid certificate;
  • be prepared to complete ABSA Level 1 Boarding/Duty of Care qualification
  • have completed or be engaged in 2nd or 3rd year of tertiary or post-graduate studies or be working ideally in the field of education;
  • be aligned with the vision of the school and the Anglican Ethos; and
  • have a passion for working with, and supporting the wellbeing and safety of young people as a mentor and a support person in a supervisory capacity.
