Boarding House Supervisor

Resident Master Residential position commencing July 2018

We are extremely proud to say that boarding life has always been an integral feature of TSS since the first boarders arrived in 1909 into Thorold, McKinley and Delpratt Houses. The boarders bring to TSS particular personal qualities and give the School a soul, a life and sense of community.

The boarding community is now seeking expressions of interest for candidates interested in the position of Resident Master – this is a live in, work out position.  We are seeking exceptional individuals who are willing to become an integral part of our Boarder’s daily lives and our Boarding community – ideally blending this opportunity with candidates’ study schedules ideally in the field of education or professional roles in the community.

In the role of Resident Master, you will be required to provide up to 15 hours of residential supervisory duty per week (rostered term time – 37 weeks per year) and in return will be provided with:

  • Single accommodation only (studio room with kitchenette, ensuite and utilities included);
  • on-site catering (dining hall access during term time);
  • access to the extensive onsite facilities, and;
  • the opportunity to be part of, and become an active member in a vibrant and diverse Boarding community that focuses on the holistic well-being of our Boarding students.

To be considered for this role applicants should:

  • Hold a current first aid certificate;
  • be prepared to complete ABSA Level 1 Boarding/Duty of Care qualification
  • have completed or be engaged in 2nd or 3rd year of tertiary or post-graduate studies or be working ideally in the field of education;
  • be aligned with the vision of the school and the Anglican Ethos; and
  • have a passion for working with, and supporting the wellbeing and safety of young people as a mentor and a support person in a supervisory capacity.

Security Guard

(Part time 30hrs – 4 days per week)

The Southport School is a leading Anglican Day and Boarding School for boys situated on the banks of the beautiful Nerang River in the heart of the Gold Coast. The Southport School (TSS) has been established for 116 years and is committed to providing excellence in leadership, learning and teaching, pastoral care and extra-curricular endeavours within a balanced, holistic Christian environment. The School has a vibrant Boarding, Education, Cultural and Sporting program that extends across the full year and two campuses.

The School is now seeking an industry qualified and QLD licensed Security Guard to join our TSS team providing security services for a dual campus school with boarding school facilities operating 30 hours per week operating full days – Saturday and Sunday, and afternoon-evening shifts Monday and Tuesday. This role requires candidates to be friendly, professional, firm when required and represent the ethos of the school whilst maintaining a safe and secure premises and environment after hours and on weekends for the staff, students and residents that live on campus. At times this role may require some crowd management activity due to the high numbers of parents, visiting schools and members of the community attending sporting events on campus.

Candidates will be required to:

  • Provide a high and professional level of customer service, servicing a wide range of school community stakeholders, from staff, to students, parents, the wider community, and visitors on campus;
  • Provide accurate and timely shift reporting and security alerts and liaise with the management team accordingly;
  • Identify WHS risks and hazards and report and manage immediate safety strategies to minimize immediate risk to community members;
  • Monitor alarms and manage and report unauthorized access across both campuses; and
  • Ensure the safety and security of staff, students and visitors on campus.

Candidates will be required to hold

  • A current QLD Security license and a Cert II or III in Security Operations;
  • be eligible to hold a working with children bluecard;
  • a current QLD drivers license;
  • a current first aid certificate including CPR;
  • have a minimum of 5 years of recent security experience including crowd control; and
  • an intermediate level of computer literacy – able to draft and send reports, investigate activity accessing CCTV footage if necessary, etc.

All candidates will be asked to provide a recent police check and must consent to have their details submitted to the QLD Anglican Diocese for a national register check. Candidates must hold or be eligible to hold a working with children bluecard.

Development Coach – TSS Aquatic Swimming

Commencing early June 2018

The Southport School is a leading Anglican Day and Boarding school for boys. TSS has been established for 115 years and is a member of the Great Public School’s (GPS) Association of Queensland located on the banks of the beautiful Nerang River in the heart of Surfers Paradise.

The Southport School, (TSS Aquatic) is currently seeking to appoint a Development Coach.

As an integral member of the coaching team, you will responsible for coaching/ transitioning Swimmers from the learn to swim programme to our junior squads. The emphasis is on establishing the fundamental technical skills and positive training habits that encourage and produce improvement across all areas.

TSS Aquatic is a proactive school based programme and club, this is reflected in the passion and commitment shown by our coaching staff. Confidence, enthusiasm, effort, persistence and resilience are key attributes we develop in our swimmers and our coaching staff work collaboratively with swimmers and Parents.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • The ability to develop a positive, motivating training environment, developing positive relationships with swimmers and parents who are new to the sport.
  • Proven success and experience coaching Junior/Regional level swimmers.
  • ASCTA Bronze license
  • First Aid and current CPR.
  • Ability to work Monday to Friday 4.00-6.30pm.
  • Some weekend work and competition attendance will be required by arrangement.
  • Eagerness to participate in Professional Development opportunities and continue training.

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and discussed with Candidates.

Teacher of Physics

Commencing from semester two – 2018

We have a full time permanent position in our Science department for an experienced teacher of Senior Physics commencing in Semester two – 2018, though subject to candidate availability, an earlier commencement date may be negotiated.

The school is seeking a candidate who is intuitive, a vibrant self-starter, and who is focused on supporting boys learning outcomes through innovative and supportive teaching practices. The successful candidate should also be able to demonstrate a understanding of the nuances of teaching boys, along with a willingness to go above and beyond in engaging with our students and becoming an active participant in the cultural fabric of the school.

Ideally candidates will have recent experience and significant understanding of the senior physics curriculum, and demonstrated experience in developing skills and confidence in students at a senior level. Candidates must have recent experience in delivering a senior physics curriculum.
