End of Term One Update

Mr Andrew Hawkins – Deputy Headmaster and Head of Senior School

It has now been well documented that we will finish the academic term on Friday March 23. I mentioned on Assembly today to the boys that there are two priorities for the early departure. The first priority is that boarders and their families reassess their travel arrangements and let the school know as soon as possible the requirements for connections and travel. Secondly, and most importantly, we must commit to a full round of Cricket against Nudgee College on Saturday March 24. We completely committed to GPS Swimming despite the adversity we faced, we will completely commit to the GPS Rowing Head of the River this weekend, and in typical TSS fashion we will commit to finishing the 2018 GPS Cricket fixtures against Nudgee. I also hope Cricketers and their parents can attend the Cricket Presentation Night following the games against Nudgee.

As the Headmaster alluded to in his letter to parents we will make up the three academic days lost this term during the Student Free Days in Terms 2, 3 and 4. While we were not directed to finish early by Queensland Health, the extended break will give our community a chance to recover and replenish our energy stores after a very draining term.

I will be travelling to Hong Kong this weekend for a TSS function for TSS Parents and Old Boys and will miss the 2018 Head of the River. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all rowers the very best for the weekend’s racing at Wyaralong Dam.

I must also congratulate the entire swim team for their second place at the GPS Championships. Liam DuFeu and his coaching team, Luke Parrish and his Senior Team need to be thanked for their leadership. Finally Flynn McGregor and Kalani Skipps require special mention for winning three out of three races they swam in at the GPS Swimming Championships last Friday night.
