Term 4, Week 7
Mr Ian Browne – Rogers Housemaster
We are close to the end of another wonderful year in Rogers, and the finish line is in sight. It will be a busy run home, but one that I hope will hold some great memories for those leaving the House at the end of 2019.
Last week the House got together and took the annual House Photo. As a “tradition” in Rogers we try not to have it in the same place all the time, varying the background every two years or so. In my time in Rogers, it has been taken in the Common Room, on the ovals, in the carpark and around the outside of the House. This year’s, due to size of the House now, compared to 2010 when I started, we need to find a venue that would hold all 46 students and staff. As you can see below, it worked really well.
It has been a huge few weeks leading to the end of the Term, including a Sleepover for the current students in their Senior House, Senior House BBQs, Formal Dinner, Social with St Hilda’s, sport, activities and busy, busy weekends. The boys are tired…. And looking forward to the final weeks, before heading home. There are heaps of photos on the Flickr site for you to see what has been happening…
Congratulations to the TSS boys who competed in the Percentile Cup at the Pittsworth Showgrounds over the weekend. Lochie Johnson, Tom Williamson, Mav Dennis and Sam Pratt were members of the TSS Interschool Camp Draft team and overall the Team placed 3rd. Great work!
House Supper season at TSS is always a big event, and one that many of the Rogers boys especially enjoy. It’s an opportunity to be recognised in your Senior House for the efforts throughout the year, and also experience the Yr 12s Graduation. The 25th Rogers Presentation Night (on 27 November – 4:30-6:30pm in Rogers Common Room – tickets available via Parent Portal) is also one of those special events where the boys ‘Graduate’ from Rogers after what has been a transition year in boarding.
Final reminder, can I ask parents to get onto Reach, their End of Term Leave arrangements as soon as possible …. Thank you.
As this will be the last Boarding Bulletin for 2019, I’d like to thank many people with in Rogers for such an enjoyable year. The resident staff; Kyle Yssel left us in October to return home to South Africa. Sam Huckstep left us to become the Assistant Housemaster of Delpratt, and we thank him for his time as our Senior Resident Master. Also a huge thanks to Adam Mallett who leaves Rogers after 5 ½ years as a Resident Master. We thank him for his huge contibution to Rogers and wish him success as he continues at TSS, coaching our next Olympic swimmers. Continuing on for 2020, we will have Jackson Elliott, Luke Papworth, Brad Stacey & Harry Smith. To all Resident Staff, I must thank them for their dedication, enthusiasm and energy he directs toward the boys. It is infectious, and they all have contributed to making the lives of our boys, and mine, such an enjoyable year. We look forward to thanking them all for their time in Rogers at the Annual Presentation Evening.
To Mr Elliott, Mr Bos, Mr Alves, Mr Huckstep, Mr Mallett and Mr Smith, who assists by looking after the entire Prep Supervison program, has been of great help to the House, especially in the this very important academic area. Standards, monitoring, and overall level of academic purpose within the House has lifted, and we thank them all for their commitment to this wonderful initiative.
Matron’s role in any House is one of nurture, caring & overall wellbeing towards the students under her care. Donna Fuhrmann brought her own style to this position in Rogers throughout the year, and achieved so much. I thank her personally for her efforts in ‘moulding’ our fine young men into Rogers Boys.
I wish all families of TSS, a wonderful, and memorable Christmas with their loved ones, and look forward to seeing everyone back in 2020. What a year it will be… a new House full of new Year 7s, approx 46 of them in total will commence Term 1, Another new ‘Little Band of Brothers’ to enjoy this wonderful House. Best wishes to all!
