As The Southport School is a Diocesan Owned School, the governing body of the School is Diocesan Council. The members of Diocesan Council are:
Diocesan Council delegates certain governance functions to The Southport School Council via the School’s Constitution.
In circumstances where the Directors of the Governing Body must be provided with a report about sexual abuse or likely sexual abuse the Diocesan Council has, pursuant to Section 366B of the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 delegated that role to Mr Greg Milles, the Director of Professional Standards within the diocese.
Mr Perrin was appointed to Council in 2003 and Chairman in 2010. He is a qualified solicitor (Queensland Institute of Technology).
A second generation Old Boy of the School, Mr Perrin attended The Southport School from 1978 to 1984 and was School Captain in his final year. A keen sportsman and a member of Radcliffe House, Mr Perrin was captain of the 1st XV as well as a Senior CUO with Cadets. He maintained his sporting career during tertiary studies playing with the Gold Coast Eagles and captaining the premiership side in 1988 before joining Souths in Brisbane and playing with the club as captain from 1991 to 1993, winning the premierships each of these years.
Mr Perrin also has represented Queensland in Rugby Union between 1989 and 1992.

Mr Wain was appointed to Council at the same time as his appointment as Headmaster to The Southport School in 2004. Mr Greg Wain was born in Perth, Western Australia. After leaving School, Mr Wain spent two years as a jackeroo on a large sheep station in the North West before completing a Diploma of Teaching. He taught Mathematics and Science at Scotch College in Perth for several years before moving to Sydney to teach at The Scots College, a GPS boys’ boarding school. During his 14 years at Scots, where at various times he held the positions of Senior Day Housemaster, Boarding Housemaster and Head of Mathematics, Mr Wain studied part-time for three degrees; a Bachelor of Education (UNE) a Master of Educational Administration (UNSW) and a Master of Business Administration (UNE). In 1995 Mr Wain moved to Brisbane with his wife, Katrina, and daughter, Sophie, to take up the position of Deputy Headmaster of Brisbane Grammar School. Mr Wain was Principal of Cannon Hill Anglican College in Brisbane for four years before taking up appointment as Headmaster at The Southport School.

Professor Michael Blumenstein was appointed to School Council in 2008 and is also Chairman of the Education & Innovation Committee. Michael is currently the Head of School, Software in the Faculty of Engineering & IT at the University of Technology Sydney. He previously worked at Griffith University where he accumulated over a decade of experience in leadership roles including portfolio Dean (Research) of the Sciences Group and Head of the School of Information and Communication Technology.
Michael is a nationally and internationally recognised expert in the areas of automated Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, and his current research interests include Multi-Script Handwriting Recognition and Signature Verification. He has published over 174 papers in refereed books, conferences and journals. His research also spans various projects applying Artificial Intelligence to the fields of Engineering, Environmental Science, Neurobiology and Coastal Management. Michael has secured internal/nationally competitive research grants to undertake these projects with funds exceeding AUD$4.3 Million.
Following his achievements in applying Artificial Intelligence to the area of bridge engineering (where he has published widely and has been awarded federal funding), he was invited to serve on the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering’s Working Commission 6 to advise on matters pertaining to Information Technology. Michael was the first Australian to be elected onto this committee. He was also Gold Coast Chapter Convener and a Board Member of the Australian Computer Society’s Queensland Branch Executive Committee. Michael is the immediate past Chairman of the IT Forum Gold Coast and a former Board Member of IT Queensland. Michael has served on the Australian Research Council’s (ARC) College of Experts on the Engineering, Mathematics and Informatics (EMI) panel. In addition, he was elected onto the Executive of the Australian Council of Deans of Information and Communication Technology (ACDICT).
In 2009 Michael was named as one of Australia’s Top 10 Emerging Leaders in Innovation in the Australian’s Top 100 Emerging Leaders Series supported by Microsoft. Michael is a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society and a Senior Member of the IEE
Mr Twemlow was appointed to School Council in 2013 and also to the position of Chairman of the Finance Committee.
Adam is a Partner at KPMG and has 15 years audit and advisory experience. He also has extensive experience in co-ordinating the audits of listed and unlisted public companies and large private companies.
Adam has significant experience working on the audits of mining and exploration companies and with businesses in the start-up phase.
Adam’s current and previous clients include Cockatoo Coal Limited, Planet Gas Limited, Biotron Limited, Callabonna Uranium Limited, Augur Resources Limited, Bolnisi Gold NL, Indigo Properties Australia Limited, Virotec Limited, Orrcon Holdings Pty Ltd and Life Settlements Funds Limited.
Adam’s skills and experience have been gained from working with public listed and unlisted companies, multinational companies, small and large proprietary companies, managed investment schemes and not-for-profit entities.
Adam has also gained a wide range of international exposure and spent several years in London with the Royal Bank of Scotland plc in the role of Group Treasury Financial Controller. Adam also spent time in the US with KPMG and was involved with US oil & gas companies.
Adam’s focus is on the development of exceptional client relationships and on high quality service delivery. Adam is committed to ensuring timely and productive assistance is provided to clients in order to meet their needs.
Fr Harry Reuss was appointed to School Council as the Archbishop’s Nominee in 2012. Father Harry was the Rector of the Parish of Murwillumbah from 1994 before his commissioning as the Parish Priest of Saint Peter’s in August 2005. The son of a dairy farmer in Victoria, Fr Harry gained his Diploma of Agriculture at Longerenong College, served for a while in Borneo, came back home and gained his Licentiate of Theology at Saint Barnabas’ College, Adelaide, before being made Deacon in 1969 and Priest in 1970 by the Bishop of Ballarat, and serving a curacy in the Parish of Horsham.
He served a further curacy for two years in the Parish of Lillington at Leamington Spa in the Diocese of Coventry UK, where he met and married Gillian, returning to Ballarat to take up the duties as Rector of Nhill in the West Wimmera in 1975. He was called to the Parish of Portland in 1979 where he served his time as Rector until 1994 when he left to become Rector of the Parish of Murwillumbah.
During his time at Murwillumbah he became well known in the community for his pastoral visitation and fine traditional worship.
Greg Rix was appointed to School Council in 2010 and to the position of Chairman of the Building & Grounds committee in 2013. Greg Rix is a third generation Gold Coaster and is the joint managing director of Rix Developments (together with his Father Norm) which specialise in commercial and residential development. He is an Old Boy of the School, having attended The Southport School from 1972 to 1977. He was awarded full School Colours on two occasions, once for Shooting and again for Community Service. Greg was also a foundation member of Walker House in 1973.
Greg is a keen sportsman, being TSS shooting champion in 1976 and Captain of shooting in 1977. He played professional squash, winning over a dozen tournaments, ranked number one on the Gold Coast for over a decade, Queensland Country Captain three years in a row and attained a ranking of number 7 in Queensland. Greg also became a Rugby Coach in 2004 and coached for 10 years at TSS Prep, taking the Prep First’s to South Africa on two occasions.
Greg was the President of the TSS P&F Association from 2007 to 2010. He has served on several business advisory boards, including the inaugural Gold Coast Indy Business Board, Southport Gold Club Financial Board and appointed by the Queensland Government to The Board of Gold Coast TAFE. Greg was President of the Australian Small Business Association from 1987 to 1992.
Greg is married to wife Wendy and both their boys (Benjamin and Jacob) attended TSS.
Dr Paxton-Hall was appointed to Council in 2012. He attended the Church of England Grammar School (Churchie) as a boarder (First VIII Rowing, First XV Rugby, School Captain 1977).
Dr Paxton-Hall studied Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland and attended St. John’s College. He graduated in 1983 and with a pilot’s licence commenced professional life as a flying veterinary surgeon based in Charters Towers in North Queensland. Following this, he spent three years working in rural Suffolk in the UK before returning to Australia. After two years in Roma, Queensland, he acquired Tamborine Mountain Veterinary Surgery and later Canungra Veterinary Surgery to form a group mixed animal practice in the Gold Coast Hinterland. Dr Paxton-Hall has also held several positions with the Australian Veterinary Association.
Dr Paxton-Hall has a strong affinity with the TSS community as a parent and has been an active member of the Rugby committee since 2009.
Leith was educated at Clayfield College and University of Queensland. She has a Bachelor of Social Work, majoring in Rural and Economic Development and worked in North Western Queensland and the Northern Territory in Aboriginal, Mining and Pastoral communities, before returning to Goondiwindi to work on the family Merino Stud.

Nathan Quartermaine was appointed to School Council and the Building & Grounds Committee in 2015. On graduating from The Southport School, Nathan was accepted into a Part-time Architecture degree at QUT. The part-time nature allowed him the flexibility to work while completing his studies. During this time he worked for Burling Brown and Partners. Nathan was fortunate to work in Asia and spent time as a Project Designer in Hong Kong. Once he completed his studies he left for a year to work in North America. As a Project Leader on works in Vancouver, Seattle, Chicago and Victoria he was able to travel extensively and this provided him with an understanding of Architecture and Urban planning. Nathan developed his portfolio with key commissions across various companies and cultures. A passion for Ecologically Sustainable Urban Development and innovative design is evident across his portfolio of large-scale and educational projects. In 2006 upon returning to Australia, Nathan became a Director of Burling Brown and Partners. In obtaining a Masters of Urban Planning, at the Bond School of Sustainability in 2010, he completed a range of Urban Development studies, developing an intimate understanding of the planning process.
Dr Mirakian was appointed to the Council in 2015.
Born in Melbourne, she attended Penleigh and Essendon Grammar School and went on to complete her medical degree at Melbourne University in 1994. She moved to the Gold Coast for her internship at Gold Coast Hospital and later became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practice. At the same time, she completed a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
With a keen interest in women’s and sexual health, she began work in 1997 as a Government Medical Officer examining sexual assault victims. This progressed to a part time career as a Forensic Medical Officer for Qld Health where she now delivers the full range of forensic services. In 2015 she completed her Masters of Forensic Medicine and was accepted as a Clinical Forensic Medicine Fellow at the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia and a Fellow of the Australian College of Legal Medicine. She continues to work part time in general practice as well as Currumbin Clinic and Pindara Hospital where she sits on the Executive Committee and Medical Advisory Committee respectively.
Dr Mirakian is married and has two daughters who attend St Hilda’s School.

Mr Cardiff is the Chief Financial Officer of the School and also the Secretary to the School Council and Foundation. Educated at Brisbane Boys’ College, Mr Cardiff had an early career in the Royal Australian Navy after which he studied Commerce at University majoring in Marketing and Information Technology. Postgraduate study in Accounting followed along with study and membership of CPA. Mr Cardiff has been involved in executive management in education at both Griffith University and the University of Queensland before moving to the secondary sector at Mt St Michael’s College in Brisbane where he was the Business Manager from 2004 to 2009 before taking up the appointment at The Southport School in March of 2009. He also has a career long interest in Superannuation which has included positions as a Consultative Committee member of Unisuper and as Trustee Director of the Catholic Superannuation and Retirement Fund. Mr Cardiff is married with two children.
