On June 7 a number of information sessions pertaining to Years 9, 10 and 11 for 2018 will take place in the Annand Theatre. As boarder parents, please be aware that your son will be supervised and be in attendance at these and the information session itself will be filmed and sent to all boarder families shortly after the evening. Below are the individual invitations to the sessions should boarder families be able to attend in person.

Year 10 Set Plans

Year 10’s are in full swing attending interviews with our TSS Careers & Academic Guidance Team to develop their Senior Education and Training (SET) Plans.  These interviews with your sons are a collaborative process used to map their learning and career pathways, and play a vital role in ensuring training and career options of interest after Year 12 remain open and achievable. The team leading the interviews take time to talk with each Year 10 student, with an emphasis on structuring their senior school learning around their abilities, interests and ambitions.  Discussions abound regarding subjects on offer, OP eligibility, university offerings and traineeship alternatives. Students are encouraged to explore flexible, coordinated senior study options that will not only support their post-school plans, but also deliver a fulfilling final two years of their senior schooling experience.

A completed record sheet of the SET Plan interview is stored in student files, copies are also forwarded to students and their parents.  The SET Plan provides an important review tool in Years 11 and 12 to ensure students maintain a pathway to future courses and careers of interest, and is referred to by academic staff in assisting our boys to navigate their senior education.

The SET Plan process culminates with the Senior Subject Selection Evening, scheduled for next Wednesday 7 June.  It is intended that information discussed at SET Plan interview will inspire our boys to speak with senior teachers and learn more about individual subject courses, ultimately assisting in their final subject selection in Term 3.

A blank SET plan is attached below for interested Year 10 parents.

Boarder Activities

The inaugural Boarding House Ping Pong tournament took place last Sunday and, to be honest, exceeded all expectations. There were over 60 boys out and about, playing and cheering their house mates in and around the various tables. The scent of a large sausage sizzle also peaked interest in senior boys as a number left their work to sample the simple yet delightful treat of a sausage in bread with sauce.

Delpratt have continued their winning ways with another victory, beating McKinley in the overall result. Mr Bos in particular revelled in the moment offering me in particular a full account of the Dellie victories during 2017. The pain continues. Special mention to the two Roger’s teams who gave their all, with one of the teams beating the senior Thorold team and the enthusiastic Biddle spectator and supporter group led by the entire Crook family.

Etiquette Classes

The annual Year 7 and 8 etiquette dinner is to be held this Saturday. Over the past fortnight, all boarder boys from these year levels have participated in manners and etiquette classes with Mr Wilkins. The classes culminate to a formal dinner with the boarders of St Hilda’s as our guests where the boys have the opportunity to display impeccable manners. We will make a little DVD and have this for the next edition of the Boarding Bulletin. Year 7 Tom Ramsay writes:

On Tuesday night Rogers had an etiquette lesson with Mr Wilkins.  First, we all partnered up, half of us ladies and the other half men. We led our ladies to their seats and sat down, after appropriately pulling the seat out for them. We then learnt how to set the table, and after a lengthy explanation from Mr Wilkins, we had accumulated the knowledge of how to set crockery and cutlery for a four-course meal. Next it was time to put our skills to the test, and after one broken glass and a bit of confusion, we had success. We are looking forward to the formal dinner on Saturday evening with the following dinner menu:

Etiquette Dinner

Appetizer

Curried Sweet Potato Soup

Entrée

Salt n Pepper Calamari w, Asian Salad

Main

Southern Style Chicken w, Roasted Buttered Corn & Slaw

Dessert

Passion Fruit Baked Cheesecake

Dinner Rolls on Table

Year 10 Dance Lessons

The eagerly awaited Year 10 dance classes have commenced with the boys participating enthusiastically over at St Hilda’s on Wednesday evenings. The evening is always remembered by the heavy scent of forgettable after-shave, but nonetheless the boys really do enjoy the evening. We have put together a short DVD to give you some understanding and recognition of what occurs and the enormous talent or thereabouts the boys possess.
