Mr Tony Watt | McKinley Housemaster
A Message from our McKinley Boarder Representative, Mrs Susie Kelly
Dear McKinley Parents
Earlier this year, Tony Watt asked me to take on the role as Parent Representative of McKinley House. My husband Tim and I are new parents to McKinley House this year; our eldest son, Tom, is in Year 8, having commenced at TSS last year in Rogers House. Goondiwindi is home for us.
My first ‘job’ is to create a small fundraising opportunity for the House at the upcoming House Supper. Tony has said the funds raised will be spent on House activities next year.
I thought it would be unique and fun to create a McKinley Hamper, a collection of goodies donated from the families in the House, and reflecting the towns and districts we all call home. For example, I will donate something from Goondiwindi Cotton. Tony has said he will throw in something from TSS. Someone from Byron Bay might donate coffee beans. Other ideas may include olives, jams, beef jerky, wine, chocolates, books, something from your business, etc. If you can’t think of some item specifically from your area, you could make something – rumballs or a flavoured vinegar, or donate something generic like wine, beer, a non-perishable gourmet treat, or in fact – whatever you consider worthy. With goodies hailing from all over the state and as far west as the Kimberleys, south to Victoria, and north to Papua New Guinea, it will surely become a sentimental hamper and one we would all like to win.
The idea is to raffle the McKinley Hamper at the House Supper. However, it would be appreciated if you would please send your hamper donation back to school at the beginning of term, and once the goodies are packaged together as the McKinley Hamper, tickets can be sold. Perhaps Tony can send some of the boys on that job!
Thank you for your support.

Over the past few days, our Year 12 boys OP eligible have been undertaking the QCS state wide examination. The feedback from our boys was largely very positive. The boys were quick to remind me that I took senior boys to Cav’s steakhouse last year, so now as a new tradition – in the eyes of the boys – we are off to enjoy a large steak!
Please find below an invitation to our annual House Supper that is to be held on Friday, November 3. For those families new to the School, the House chapel service and supper is one of the biggest evenings of the year in which the McKinley community comes together to celebrate and acknowledge each boy, as well as award House colours and other achievements. Importantly, it is also an occasion where we acknowledge our senior cohort as we begin to say goodbye to them and their families. Please keep November 3 free so you can attend this year’s supper. More details about online ticket purchasing will come in the near future.
Please note bookings for the McKinley House Supper through Parent Lounge will open Wednesday 6 September.
After some long hours of organising and last minute injuries, House Track and Field was finally underway. TSS Athletics captain Ben Gibson started the carnival off well for McKinley by winning the Open 3000m, 1500m and 800m. There were some other outstanding performances, including Tom van der Schyff, Ben Kinivan, Tom Kelly, Stirling Smith, Zack Joyce, Geoff Swan, Jock Thompson, Jarrod Hall, Tyrone Honeysett, just to name a few. Also, the Grade 7’s were excited to feel part of the house competing and they were a great help for the sports captains and me on the day in regards to organisation. At the end of the day, McKinley came in 5th, narrowly missing 4th by half a point. Thorold came 1st and Delpratt 2nd. This is a great effort for McKinley and we wish all the best to Delpratt and hope they win the House Shield for the first time in decades, as they are winning so far.
Could we remind all parents to have their leave in prior to Friday morning tea at 10:20am. Both Mr Alini and I sit down each Friday at this time to go through each leave request ensuring we have the right amount of detail and that the boys leave request is appropriate. It is most helpful if your approval is prior to this meeting. Thanks for your cooperation with this issue.
