From the Headmaster – Mr Andrew Hawkins
With our Year 12 Graduation occurring prior to their final exams, the end of year celebrations have happened mostly at Prep in 2021. Awards Assemblies, Christmas Services and Year 6 Candles and Clay have been running at Prep while the Senior School have been completing their unit one assessments.
I am not sure where the time goes but it is hard to believe that this year is coming to an end academically. This year has had a little bit of everything. A new Headmaster is rare here at TSS and has only happened every 15 years on average throughout our 120-year history. Most cohorts from Preschool to Year 12 have the same Headmaster for their entire journey. I hope I am still here to shake the hands of the 2021 Preschool class when they graduate in Year 12.
While Queensland has been extremely lucky in comparison to other States in Australia, we have still had a disruptive year to say the least. I know I speak for our community when I say that we hope for a more ‘normal’ 2022.
I have sat through countless events this term celebrating each boy in the school. We have been lucky to be able to hold these functions given the COVID climate. These school events range from the Preschool Christmas Concert through to the Senior House Suppers. So much happens in a year but it is reassuring to know that the Band of Brothers is alive and well and each boy feels the sense of belonging to their school, regardless of their year group.
Our theme for 2022 will be ‘We are a Team’ and we are excited about the various messages that we will be running through our Chapels, Assemblies, Wellbeing lessons and academic sessions encompassing teamwork.
Before we get ahead of ourselves and plan 2022, I would like to take this opportunity to show gratitude to the community for your support of TSS throughout 2021. I wish all members of our community a very Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year for 2022.
Just a reminder that we will be offering a community Christmas Chapel Service for the St. Hilda’s and TSS community at 5:30pm on Christmas Eve. We hope that many of our local families can make the service at the TSS Chapel.
