Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all

From Headmaster – Mr Andrew Hawkins

In contrast to previous years where we had our Year 12 Graduation Ceremony prior to commencement of the external exam block, this year we involved our Year 12 cohort in the decision-making process; the boys put it to the vote and it was decided to have Graduation after all external exams were completed.   The Graduation Ceremony on Thursday will be the culmination of a very busy, emotionally charged week where we have hosted a parent and son function, Valedictory Chapel and Dinner, with each event celebrating our graduating seniors.   We thank all our families for their loyalty and support of TSS and wish our Valedictorians all the best for a meaningful future.

Next week will see many end-of-year celebrations occurring at both the Prep and Senior Campuses: Awards Assemblies, Christmas Services, Year 6 Candles and Clay, our annual Preschool Concert.  All of these events will coincide with the Unit One Exam Block for our Senior Students so next week will be a busy one for the school and we collectively look forward to finishing well.  It is really special to have a year where we can celebrate these events without restrictions.

The end of the year allows for a time of reflection and this year has certainly delivered some unique moments. The passing of a sporting King in Australia and the sad loss of our Queen were two huge moments. Closer to home we had an empty pool and no Day Houses on the Senior Campus, and our First Team Basketball and Rugby won shared premierships only moments apart in the final round against Ipswich Grammar School.

Moving forward, our theme for 2023 will be ‘We are Scholars’ and we are excited about the various messages that we will be running through our chapels, assemblies, wellbeing lessons, and academic sessions encompassing Scholarship.

Before we get ahead of ourselves and look too far into planning for 2023, I would like to take this opportunity to show gratitude to the community for your support of TSS throughout 2022. I wish all members of our community a very Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year for 2023, particularly those who are travelling over the summer break.

Finally, just a reminder that we will be offering a community Christmas Chapel Service for the St Hilda’s and TSS communities at 5:30pm on Christmas Eve.  We hope that many of our local families are able to attend the service to be held at St Alban’s Chapel on the Senior Campus at TSS.
