Music Notes

Rob Cooke | Director of Music

‘Viva la Musica’

‘Viva la musica’ roughly translated means ‘live music’ and there has been plenty of that going on in the last few of weeks of Term 3.

Senior Music Camp

Forty-seven boys worked very hard over the three day camp. It is interesting to note that each group rehearsed for over 11 hours and many of the boys who were in more than one ensemble were literally saturated with music making -and that is no bad thing I guess. However, there was some time to relax and socialise and once again the traditional touch football knockout competition was a big hit. Although a social game, the competition was fierce and Mr Cooke’s team finally won the comp despite him playing in the side!

Christmas in July High Tea featuring the Wieniawski Strings – Friday, July 28

The inaugural String High tea celebrating ‘Christmas in July’ was a complete sell out and an extremely successfully event. The concert was based around our Senior string ensemble the ‘Wieniawski Strings and was complemented by quartets, trios, and duets. The staff also got involved with their own quartet, heard here: https://youtu.be/ug_Va5dYEmw

Thank you very much to AJ Kanamura and her team on the Friends of Music for organising the event. We look forward to seeing it return in 2018.

Term Three Showcase concert

Last week all our core ensembles performed our term 3 concert and what a lovely night of music making it was. Over 100 boys were involved and demonstrated that TSS music is going from strength to strength. I would like to thank the parents for their patronage on the night. Please feel free to bring friends and relatives along to the next one!

Gold Coast Eisteddfod

Next week marks the start of the Eisteddfod season and I know the boys in all the ensembles are looking forward to their performances. Please make an effort to come and hear them if possible, as I know they will really appreciate your support. Details of the performances are found below:
