Mr Rob Cooke – Director of Music
The music programme is up and running with many of our ensembles busily rehearsing for the first concert on March 26. Musical groups are highly disciplined in order to create a product that is very sophisticated in nature. Therefore, it is most important that these groups function as well as they can to make use of limited time. There is an old musicians saying that goes ‘Early is on time, on time is late,’ so I ask that students in these ensembles are ready to play at the starting times. If we can do this, then we are well on the way to making good music.
The rehearsal schedule is found below:
Each year the GPS school system combines in the only collaborative event of the year to celebrate GPS fellowship and creativity. Held last Wednesday evening at QPAC, thirteen Senior TSS musicians represented the school in a symphony orchestra, choir, big band and concert band. The boys are to be congratulated for their commitment and performance level so early in the year and I also thank them for their good humour and great singing on the bus home after an eighteen hour day!
These lessons have started and we are currently working through new enrolments. Please note some instrumental lessons are full and consequently, waiting lists have been formed. You will be notified if your son has been put on a waiting list.
Congratulations to Chandler Campbell and Harry Bennett who have been voted in by the student body as Music Captains for 2020. Both candidates received the same number of votes so we have decided to have two co-captains this year. We look forward to their great enthusiasm and energy in the upcoming concerts.
