Week 5 has been a busy week with music workshops, sectionals and rehearsals. All boys have worked hard and progressed greatly with their music. It is important that boys know their rehearsal days, arrive on time and ready to rehearse. Well done to all boys who have worked so hard in music this week!
All boys have been made aware if they are eligible for Prep Pockets and Prep Colours. Lateness and unexplained absence from rehearsals and concerts will affect boy’s eligibility for colours and pockets. A reason must be given when explaining absence. It is not acceptable to simply say he was absent from rehearsal.
Boys from Year 4 are eligible to apply for the HJ King Music Scholarship. For details and requirements please see the school website. Applications close at the end of Week 6.
Each week I will introduce you to someone on the Prep Music Team. We are very fortunate to have a wonderful group of musicians who teach the boys.
This week is on NOELLE McALISTER (Flute, Clarinet and Saxophone Teacher – email@example.com
Noelle was given the opportunity to play an instrument in Year 5 and chose the flute because it was shiny and had lots of ‘buttons’. Many years later, the flute still remains her favourite instrument, although she also dabbles in saxophone and clarinet. Noelle studied flute at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and also played lead alto saxophone in the Conservatorium Big Band. Nowadays she plays piccolo and flute in the Northern Rivers Symphony Orchestra as well as freelancing. Noelle also played alto saxophone in the Chancellor Big Band and later started her own jazz and funk band, Funk Factory. She has been at TSS since 2012 and loves the challenge of teaching boys to play the flute.
