During the June/July holidays, 19 boys set off on an adventure to Thredbo Resort to enjoy some holiday fun in the snow. Leaving from Brisbane early on a Sunday morning, the boys made their way to Canberra before heading off on their bus trip up the mountain to Thredbo. After collecting all their skis and snowboards and checking into our on-snow accommodation, the boys had a chance to play in the snow and soak up the alpine experience.
The boys were up bright and early on Monday morning and we were soon outside enjoying their first lesson. For some, this was there first time on the snow. All boys, whether first timers or seasoned skiers, had the opportunity to explore the different areas of Thredbo, when we skied off to enjoy some time practicing their skills that had learned earlier in the day. During the week boys progressed rapidly and improved their ability to manage the different terrain on the mountain. On Wednesday evening, the boys even had the opportunity to participate in the night skiing, allowing the boys to ski right through to 7:00pm. This was certainly one of the highlights for the boys. Another highlight for the boys was to experience skiing in falling snow. A number of boys had yet to experience the snow, let alone falling snow and even having the chance to ski in it as well.
On Thursday and Friday, all boys managed to negotiate some of the more difficult terrain on the mountain and applied their new skills to some of the more challenging Blue runs. As we finished up on Friday, all boys and staff headed across together to one of the more difficult runs. Our last ski run of the week was all 19 boys skiing down “High Noon”. I know that all boys acquitted themselves admirably during the week and the camaraderie shown and friendships formed will stay with the boys for some time to come.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to Mrs Kerrie Anderson and Mr Corey Tones for accompanying the boys during their holiday time. I would also like to extend a thank you to Tom Ray for his assistance with the boys and giving his time to assist with the trip. I look forward to 2018, where we will once again host the Prep School Ski Trip.
