Prep Sport

Mr Robert Egan, Preparatory Sportsmaster

Week 6 and Prep Sport is at full throttle. The Junior Rugby program started on Tuesday and GPS Swimming Championships  are at Chandler  on Friday. We are half way through GPS Cricket, Football and Tennis sign on is open , Junior Football, Cross Country and extensive co-curricular program are already running. Week 7 is the first sign on for Staff vs Student Badminton tournaments for the year,  there are limited spaces, so first in best dressed see Mrs Schroder to enter. This is open to staff and year 6 boys only.

Over the past four weeks we have had ‘Game on’ as part of our Core Skills program. The boys have been working on all the skills relating to invasion games through touch rugby. It has been a resounding success, with 8 days of none stop running rugby, seeing some great ball handling, footwork, offensive/defensive arrangement and wider rugby knowledge improve quickly. On behalf of the boys and staff, thank you to Bobby Zane and Chris Miles for their experience, time and energy. Also welcome to Chris Miles to our Junior Rugby program, he is an experienced player, referee and coach, who will be working closely with our U8’s this season.

Thank you to all the parents who attend  Junior Rugby and Junior Football for their support with training, and remaining at the pavilion or grand stand. There has been a marked difference in the boys focus and performance over the past few weeks, they have had an excellent start to their respective seasons. A quick reminder about collecting the boys at the end of training and matches, parents or guardians must collect the boys from the pavilion, with the boys signing out with their coach through a shack of the hand and ‘good afternoon/morning’ before leaving with you. If you would like more information on spectator code of conduct, please refer to the policy on the sport tab on prepbook or page 16-17 in the boys record books.

Junior Rugby and Football uniform can be purchased from the uniform shop located at the Senior School. The only exceptions are rugby/football boots, mouth guards and rugby head gear, suggestions for where to purchase these items are below;

Rugby / Football Boots – Any good local sport store. Suggested boots are moulded studded boots, suitable for the drier, harder ground on the Gold Coast.

Mouthguards – Local Sport Store or Local Dentist. Mouth guards are an essential safety item in rugby and basketball. I would suggest a custom-fitted mouthguard fitted by a dentist, with its superior safety rating and comfort for the boys. There are a number of Dentist’s able to assist with custom mouth guards, a number of whom are offering discounts at this time of year.

Rugby Head Gear –  Local Sports Store or Mrs Schroder (TSS head gear)  Head gear is optional for the boys, plain navy or block head gear is expectable or alternatively TSS head gear can be purchased from Mrs Schroder (stock arriving soon).

GPS cricket, Sailing and Junior Football fixtures this Saturday will be displayed on the
