Mr Andrew Stark – Head of Libraries

Each examination period brings ‘new life’ to the senior library! Currently, we have boys from Years 7 to 11 busily preparing and revising for Naplan, class tests and examinations. The Yr 12 boys will commence their examination block in around ten days. We also have a small group of students joining us from around Australia to complete a series of grueling examinations for entry to Colleges in the USA. We wish everyone the best of luck at this busy time of year.

As always, it is a good time to remind boys and parents about some of the excellent online resources available through the Senior Library website.

The most popular resources we have include: Facts on File (excellent for all subjects and Years 7 to 9), ELibrary (a very extensive collection of newspaper articles and other resources), Echo Contemporary Issues (an excellent resource that focuses on controversial issues and provides extensive arguments both for and against), and Informit TV News (an archive of free-to-air television news and current affairs programs that extends as far back as 2006). For more assistance, please see library staff.

Another very important database is the online Study Skills Handbook which gives advice to students, parents and teachers on time management and preparing for assessment items. To access it go to login details are available from library staff. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact me for further information.

A reminder to parents and boys that TSS and St Hilda’s Philosophy and Reading Club will have its next meeting on Monday 10 June at TSS from 4pm to 6.30pm. The topic for discussion is ‘Conformity’ and boys are required to have read a variety of selected texts beforehand so they can contribute to the discussion. Please see library staff for more information and the book list.

Happy reading and researching!
