Mr Andrew Stark – Head of Libraries
Once again, the Gold Coast community embraced TSS very warmly during the third Gold Coast Open House event held last weekend. TSS Senior Campus was ‘open for inspection’ on Saturday 4 November and nearly 80 members of the community visited the campus to learn more about the School’s history and see some of the School’s facilities firsthand.
It was delightful meeting community members who had never been on the Senior School campus before – they were amazed at the level of focus given to the history of the area and the School and, in some cases, were a little overwhelmed. Similarly, some visitors headed directly for the Chapel, to see where their parents had been married and, in two cases, where they had been baptised!
Thanks to Mr Hawkins, Mr Watt and Mrs Turner for hosting tours throughout the day. The feedback from visitors was very positive indeed. Special thanks to School Archivist Mrs Turner for the tremendous work she has done in setting up the museum under the Clock Tower. This was a focal point on the day with all visitors fascinated by the School’s history and the stories Mrs Turner had to tell! Thank you also to TSS Old Boy Mr Lionel Meerkin (1942) for his assistance and enthusiasm throughout the day. Lionel, your help and support is greatly appreciated!
Final TSS and St Hilda’s Philosophy Club meeting – Monday 20 November, 4pm in the new library.
