Real-world skills at Speech and Variety

Ms Jessica Prouten, Speech and Variety Coordinator

On a cold evening in the last week of term a creditable number of boys turned up for a impromptu evening. The topic for the evening was job interview skills. We started off with some team building activities with School Captain Joe Madden, who also outlined some ground rules for the club.

After this Mrs Baker-Wright, TSS Human Resources Manager, introduced herself and her role at the school. She talked through some of the most important parts of job interview technique before giving the senior boys the opportunity to interview for some of the schools most impressive jobs.

Boys answered questions about their skills as Headmaster, English Teachers, Director of Rugby and Coach of the First XV. One standout was Tre Stanley who shared about the importance of compassion as a leader, talking through the loss rather than the wins, and the thingsĀ  Mr Holtsbaum had taught him.

Next term is our competition term, so boys wishing to nominate for Main Speech are encouraged to do so as soon as possible.

Dates for next term are as follows:

  • 20 July: 10-12 Prepared Speech Competition
  • 26 July: 7-9 Prepared Speech Competition
  • 24 August: 7-9 Impromptu Speaking Competition
  • 31 August: 10-12 Impromptu Speaking Competition and Awards evening.
