We are close to the end of another wonderful year in Rogers, and the finish line is in sight. It will be a busy run home, but one that I hope will hold some great memories for those leaving the House at the end of 2018.
Our UN-Official Rogers House Photo for 2018 – last week the House got together and took the annual House Photo. As a “tradition” in Rogers we try not to have it in the same place all the time, varying the background every two years or so. In my time in Rogers, it has been taken in the Common Room, on the ovals, in the carpark and around the outside of the House. This year’s, due to size of the House now, compared to 2010 when I started, we needed to find a venue that would hold all 44 students and staff. As you can see, it worked really well.
It has been a huge few weeks leading to the end of the Term, Including a final sleepover for the 2019 students, a Sleepover for the current students in their Senior House, Senior House BBQs, Formal Dinner, Social with St Hildas, sport, activities and busy busy weekends. The boys are tire, and looking forward to the final week, before heading home.
HUGE Congratulations to Griff Williams who made the Queensland U12s Cricket team to play in the Australian Championships in Perth in December. Well done Griff!!! Congratulations on this achievement…
Congratulations to the TSS boys who competed in the Percentile Cup at the Pittsworth Showgrounds over the weekend. Will Johnson was a member of the TSS Inter-school Camp Draft team and overall the Team placed 3rd. Great work Will!
House Supper season at TSS is always a big event, and one that many of the Rogers boys especially enjoy. Its an opportunity to be recognised in your Senior House for the efforts throughout the year, and also experience the Yr 12s Farewell. The Rogers Presentation Night (on the 28th November – 430-630pm in Rogers Common Room – tickets available via Parent Portal) is also one of those special events where the boys ‘Graduate’ from Rogers after what has been a transition year in boarding.
As this will be the last Boarding Bulletin for 2018, I’d like to thank many people with in Rogers for such an enjoyable year. The resident staff; Jordan Larkan left us in December to return home to South Africa, and Honore Dupeiu leaves us to return home to France. Kristen Bannister leaves us at the end of 2018 as our Senior Resident Master, but continues as a valuable member of the Yr 7 teaching team. Also a huge thanks to Ash Crook who leaves TSS to return back to Victoria to take up a teaching position in his home state. We thank them both for their contibution to rogers and wish them success in their future careers in and out of TSS. Continuing on for 2018, we will have Adam Mallett, Brad Stacey and Harry Smith. To all Resident Staff, I must thank them for their dedication, enthusiasm and energy towards the boys, is infectious, and they all have contributed to making the lives of our boys, and mine, such an enjoyable year. We look forward to thanking them all for their time in Rogers at the Annual Presentation Evening.
To Mr Elliott, Mr Bos, Ms Bannister and Mr Crook, who assists by looking after the entire Prep Supervision program. They have been of great help to the House, especially in the this very important academic area. Standards, monitoring, and overall level of academic purpose within the House has lifted, and we thank them all for their commitment to this wonderful initiative.
The Matron’s role in any House is one of nurture, caring and overall wellbeing towards the students under her care. Donna Fuhrmann brought her own style to this position in Rogers throughout the year, and achieved so much. I thank her personally for her efforts in ‘molding’ our fine young men into Rogers Boys’.
I wish all families of TSS, a wonderful, and memorable Christmas with their loved ones, and look forward to seeing everyone back in 2018. What a year it will be… a new House full of new Year 7s, approx 44 of them in total will commence Term 1, Another new ‘Little Band of Brothers’ to enjoy this wonderful House. Best wishes to all!!!
