Mr Ian Browne – Rogers Housemaster

With the finish line in sight, Rogers House Presentation preparations are progressing nicely. The venue for this evening is once again the Rogers House Common Room and Deck, overlooking the Surfers skyline and Nerang River. I must say it will be a wonderful place to finish the year of with Parents, Staff and of course the Rogers boys all in one place.  If you haven’t already rsvp’d via the parent portal, please do so asap, as catering numbers are needed.  Rogers House Supper – 22nd November, 4.30pm, with Presentation commencing at 530pm. Neat Casual Dress for this Rogers House function. Payments for this evening are through the parent portal.

Matron does such a superb job decorating the boys Birthday cakes each Month. Here is the October birthdays version…

The wet weather over the past few weeks has played havoc with Rogers activities, but luckily, the St Hilda’s Fete was not affected, and our boys had a superb day.

Preseason sports training is in full swing for the GPS Term 1 2018, with rowing, sailing, swimming and cricket all keeping our boys busy. A sport that is still to have its major Championships is Athletics, and with many of our Rogers boys represented in the GPS trials. With Rowing in particular, we have nearly 80% of the Rogers House involved in the Yr8 trials. This is wonderful for the sport, having that junior interest, but also for Rogers. Well-done and good luck to those boys trialling.

ATHLETICS NEWS It’s hoped that we are well represented on the Championship day, Friday 27th October, with both Jack Ware and Charlie Lane competing in the School’s team. Best of luck to all the Rogers boys and staff involved…

Congratulations to Hayden Carrigan who was our sole representative at the Junior GPS Athletics Championships last week. He had a full program, and competed for his School very well.

Tom Ramsay also competed recently at the State Athletics Championships and recorded a 2nd place in the U13 Long Jump. A superb achievement and well deserved…. Nationals is next for him, best of luck.

A bit of fun at the beach while on Surf Bus on a Sunday….

With only a few weeks to go, most of the Year 7 boys have been very busy finishing assignments and preparing for end of term testing period. With that, the weekends too have been busy, with many boys staying in, we have found many varied ways to entertain them. Between a spot of fishing, some rowing training and Rogers style ‘Touch’ we have kept the boys entertained.

The Senior House Supper season is starting to commence with many of our boys being acknowledged by their respective Senior Houses. Well done to those that receive awards, well deserved….

Senior House Supper:

  • Thorold House Supper – Saturday, October 28
  • Biddle House Supper – Sunday, October 29
  • McKinley House Supper  – Friday, November 3
  • Delpratt House Supper  – Saturday, November 4

Heading towards Christmas time in Rogers is always a bit of fun. Here the boys are assisting Mrs D with the decorations around the House.

Finally, thanks to all well wishes with regards to my LSL holiday away. My wife and I had a superb time in Europe, and now look forward to seeing the Rogers boys graduate at the end of the year here in Rogers. Cheers…
