Term 4, Week 5
Mr Ian Browne – Rogers Housemaster
With the finish line in sight, Rogers House Presentation preparations are progressing nicely. The venue for this evening is once again the Rogers House Common Room and Deck, overlooking the Surfers skyline and Nerang River. I must say it will be a wonderful place to finish the year of with Parents, Staff and of course the Rogers boys all in one place. If you haven’t already rsvp’d via the parent portal, please do so asap, as catering numbers are needed. Rogers House Supper – 27th November, 4.30pm, with Presentation commencing at 5:30pm. Neat Casual Dress for this Rogers House function. Payments for this evening are through the parent portal.
Prior to this ceremony there will be a Year 7 Chapel Service commencing around 3pm. This is a lovely service, recognising the big year that the 7s have had in transition. All parents are very welcome to attend this, and then follow on to the Rogers function afterwards.
Preseason sport training is in full swing for the GPS Term 1 2020, with rowing, sailing, swimming and cricket all keeping our boys busy. The final major Championships is Athletics and this was held last weekend in Brisbane. Congratulations to all those Rogers boys who trailed, and to Toby O’Neill, and Hamish Ramsay at the Senior Event, and Dru Wilson, Sean Mudimu and Callum Dalton at the Junior championships.
With Rowing, we have nearly 80% of the Rogers House involved in the Year 8 trials. This is wonderful for the sport, having that junior interest, but also for Rogers. Well-done to those boys who successfully made the cut for a Year 8 crew in 2020. Have a look on Flickr for photos from some of the training session…
Coming up in a few weeks is the 2020 House swimming carnival. Yes, it’s on again, much earlier than usual, 20th November.
With only a few weeks to go and the Rogers boys now having moved up (academically) to Year 8, the focus in the House is to finish strong. As staff we are planning to make the final few weeks as enjoyable as the rest of the year, and hope the boys don’t get too much ahead of themselves, and remember they are still in Rogers.
With that, we have planned a number of Senior House activities for them to transition with, inc a few more Senior House BBQs, and also a sleepover in the Senior House to meet their dorm captains, House officials etc for 2020. The boys seem very excited about this, and are all ready to become Year 8s in their Senior Houses.
