Mr Nicholas Stansbie – Sailing Manager
This week of TSS sailing again saw tricky conditions. It became very evident that crews who could identify the favored breeze would come out on top.
Tom Wright and crew Lachlan Free had an outstanding day with 3 first places out of the 4 races. Blake Wilson with Andy Douyere had two second places, including one particularly memorable finish where they overhauled two other boats on the final down wind leg. Oscar Weatherseed with Ethan Donnelly finished with top positions and Xavier Doerr with Zach Miller-Wright also competed extremely well.
All crews demonstrated improvements from previous weeks with noticeably improved starts, following a number of drills in training organised by Sailing Captain Connor Pilcher and coach Tom Cunich.
Teams racing took place in the afternoon with a little more wind than the morning. This week’s team consisted of Tom Wright with Lachlan Free, Xavier Doerr with Zach Miller-Wright and Harry Stapleton with Connor Pilcher. We again proved that TSS was out to control the other schools with our tactics and speed.
Race one saw our only loss and as we quickly learnt from our mistakes we went on to win all 4 remaining races. With the State Titles in May it stands to prove the TSS Sailing has a good chance of coming out with podium finish.
The overall results from between TSS boats have been calculated to work out the open Firsts and Seconds teams for the upcoming GPS championships, which will incorporate the Pacer State Titles in 2 weeks’ time. These teams will be announced next week.
