Mr David Hodge, Director of Tennis
TSS dominated the day against IGS winning 8-0 and didn’t drop more than two games per set for the entire fixture. The day started with quick doubles wins to Max and Jack McCarthy 6-0 6-2 and Will Timoney and Ryan Selvey 6-2 6-1. In singles all four boys comfortably dismantled their opponents with Max winning 6-2 6-1, Jack winning 6-1 6-0, Will winning 6-2 6-0 and Ryan winning 6-2 6-2. The reverse doubles matches also proved to be comfortable with Max and Jack winning 6-1 6-1 and Will and Ryan getting their first 6-0 6-0 win of the season. Saturday was another great result for the boys and they will be training hard over the next couple of weeks before they face Nudgee College.
It was a great day for both the Thirds and Fourths with wins for both teams. The Thirds were drawn after both doubles matches and going into the singles they fought hard to get three out of the four wins there. The most impressive for the Thirds was Komei Jo who had a solid performance and beat their number 1 convincingly 6-0 to set the tone for the day. The Fourths was a complete and utter domination winning overall by 20 games.
MVP was Lachlan Nicholls with great wins in the singles and doubles. He had a solid day mentally and it was good to see him come out and play positive for the day and show the level that he knows he can play! All in all it was a great performance by both teams this week.
Our Year 11 teams went undefeated today earning convincing victories in all matches. Our A’s team defeated IGS 48-10 keeping their opponents tally one game less than the B’s who won 48-11. The boys did an excellent job of being mentally tough and sticking to their game style, and not giving their opponents any opportunities to come back. Conor was particularly impressive, only losing one game the entire day in the 11B’s.
Aidan Kitchin also had a great day leading the team at number 1 and with the addition of Charlie Hanrahan in doubles, not giving away a game to gain the momentum going into the next matches for the 11As.
Overall a great day for the boys and a proud moment as a coach.
The 9As had a convincing win 40-23, with Joe Castor and Thomas Schwerkolt combining effectively to win both their doubles and singles in emphatic fashion.
The 9Bs also produced a solid win, with Oliver Weir, Jude van der Laan and Adam Selleck all dispatching their singles opponents relatively effortlessly.
Overall a pleasing and deserved win for the 9s.
Our Year 8 team faced the strongest lineup from Ipswich Grammar on the day. The 8A’s came away with a 41-26 win with strong performances up and down the line.
The 8B’s were tested and the scores were tight. They eventually pulled away with a 38-26 victory.
Even though the 8C’s went down the Year 8 group are showing real improvement under pressure and their tactical awareness against opponents each match has been impressive.
Our Year 7 boys had a very successful day on Saturday, dropping just two games throughout the day! Both As and Bs finished with results of 48-2, dominating their matches from start to finish.
IGS couldn’t find an answer as they found themselves overpowered and outclassed by their TSS counterparts.
The record sign-on numbers for Year 7 was on display with many extra TSS players being available and keen for matches, taking to spare courts to test their mettle against each other, and supporting the As and Bs. Well done to all boys who were there on Saturday.
TSS had an excellent win in beautiful weather on our home courts today. Our 5A, 6A & 6B teams were in stunning form and breezed through their matches.
Captain Sean Sturgess played an excellent singles match. And our 6B team had a stellar win on Saturday. Congratulations to all boys and again an excellent display of sportsmanship being very respectful winners.
