Mr Nick Walton, Tennis Coordinator
On Monday the TSS boys competed at KDV Sports in the South Coast Team Trials. This year they added a middle school division which proved to be a huge success for TSS players and showed the strength of our ‘next gen’ players in the middle school division. In the senior division, the Firsts also had a very successful event, winning their pool before beating the #1 Somerset College team in the semi-finals. The Firsts play PBC in the final for a spot at the Queensland Team Trials in Rockhampton later this year.
On Saturday the First IV had another tough ask against a rejuvenated BSHS lineup, who had acquired 4 GPS schoolboy transfers. Timmy Yeung Packer was the standout TSS performer at #1 singles, battling hard against one of Australia’s top 50 juniors. Timmy battled all the way to the end, dropping the first set 2/6, fighting back to take the second set 6/4 before falling just short 6/4 in the third set. The other members of the firsts also gave their all, but couldn’t find the level required to match their opponents. In the doubles, TSS got the jump on the BSHS players on a couple of occasions, with Kenan Little stepping up for his first appearance of the season. The TSS boys went up an early break in multiple sets, before they were clawed back, going down 6/3 6/2 and 6/2 7/5.
The First IV take on Gregory Terrace this Saturday in a must win home match. Look forward to seeing as many players and parents as possible there to support. Go TSS!
