Mr Andrew Hawkins – Deputy Headmaster and Head of Senior School
The Seniors of 2018 will be a cohort that I will remember for sometime. Their ability to lead the school, strive for academic success and sporting excellence was exceptional. It would be easy to only mention the leaders and single-out Captains of the year group but the entire cohort led the school on a united front. On Thursday we had the Final Senior School Assembly followed by the Valedictory Chapel and Dinner in the Dining Hall. This year Andy Gourley, ‘Boss Frog’ and Founder of the Red Frogs Organisation, was the guest speaker at Chapel.
At the Valedictory Dinner local ENT Specialist and TSS Old Boy and Dux of 1990, Brent McMonagle, spoke to the boys of the importance of life-long learning and Brent spoke about his current research on growing olfactory nasal cells that assist to regenerate spinal cord cells. He is hopeful that this research will one day lead to paraplegics and quadriplegics gaining use of their limbs in the future.
The Graduation Service on Friday went really well and I do want to make special mention of the Academic First Captain Harrison Chen, who was awarded Dux of 2018 and Josh Moss who was the Dux Proxime Accesit (Runner-up) and of course well done to all boys that received major academic awards on the day.
Our School Captain Tom van der Schyff received the Chelmsford Cup and it is worth noting that Tom made the Dean’s List for the first time in the Senior School in his last Semester. A great message for the younger students on working until the end and not giving up on your goals.
The following boys received a gift from the school on Thursday night for making the journey from Reception to Year 12 at TSS. They were presented by their Reception Teacher Ms Sharon Joss who is now a Year 2 Teacher at TSS Prep.
The journey at this school seems to go faster than most and I have included a picture of some of the boys in their Reception class back in 2006.
