We’re excited to share news that we have finally been able to secure and enter an agreement with Carinity, allowing us sole use of their farm at Mudgeeraba.
Our livestock will provide a nice serene contrast for their new aged care facility and we will maintain the farm fencing and land-care obligations such as weed spraying and slashing fire breaks. The mutual agreement will enable us to have closer access to our livestock and it will also better our Agricultural options, such as lot feeding steers for show and trials.
I must extend a huge thank you to the Pilkington Family, for their generosity and ongoing support in allowing us to use their farm in the Numinbah Valley for the past couple of years.
The Cattle Show Team have been busy since my last newsletter. We have been to Boonah Show, The Ekka, Canungra Show and the Gold Coast Show and we will wrap up the season at Beaudesert Show this coming weekend. This year I held the cattle back from the Ekka and we did excursions instead, so Agricultural Science classes got to go as well as the show team; it also meant I didn’t have to be away from my senior classes for a lengthy period as we still had our cattle to show at three local shows post Ekka. The team have picked up a few ribbons along the way but a massive haul at the Gold Coast Show was most welcome, with boys getting places in the Junior Parading as well as the cattle placing in the Female 16 to 20 month age group and our new addition to the team, K5X Magic winning Junior Champion Male.
Unfortunately our Rodeo team didn’t make it to the annual competition this term, due to only a small number interest and an unfortunate amount of injuries mostly resulting from other sporting commitments. However, next term we are looking to run a school for any interested boys, from the absolute beginner to the most experienced. Just looking at junior steers, senior steers and junior bulls at this stage.
There is a inter-school campdraft on November 4-5. A group of boys have been busy organising a team to enter and St Margaret’s College are hosting it in Warwick the weekend following the Gold Cup. Can parents check with their sons if they are able to attend and have horses available to compete on. Could Parents please contact me via email to confirm availability – [email protected]
Year 12 Ag Science students are heading out on October 12 to an excursion investigating Agribusiness enterprises. I hope to make this an annual tour and would like thank our TSS Parents in advance for their offers of hospitality and willingness to help our students see a variety of Agribusiness enterprises firsthand. A big thank you to the McNamee, Gall, Boardman and Statham families.
